Heh, good thread. Covers off lots of duplicates I've been reading...

And the point about teenagers and this car was spot on.

Too much car - not enough driver.

If you love your kid, give them a medium sized under powered car with good air bags. Back in the day that was a rusty old volvo wagon...

what if I'm into into hard parking in the lot of the safeway on a Tuesday night, sucking on a vape pen showing off my plastidipped car and camber after installing my wheel spacers with a DSLR around my neck?
Then get the Roush auto v6, coilovers and call it a day.

Why is this the penultimate list? When can we expect the next and last one?
The last one has already been quoted in this thread (I knew it was coming): "When in doubt, buy a GT".

I keep seeing a lot of these "what do I buy, EB or GT" threads, so I figured I'd help my brothers out:

1. I like the V8 sound but it costs a lot: Buy a GT (or buy nothing).

2. I like performance: Buy a GT.

3. My insurance goes through the roof with a V8: Buy an EB.

4. I really like 4 cylinder turbo motors: Buy an EB.

5. Base GT or EB w/packages: Buy a GT.

6. I have any doubts whatsoever: Buy a GT.

7. I want to give this car to my teenager: Don't buy either car (what, are you crazy?).

8. I'm buying this car for my spouse who isn't a car person: Buy an EB (save the money, she'll never know).

9. I want a cheap, reliable, quiet ride that's still a Mustang: Buy a V6.

10. I have piles of cash and want to spend it: Buy a GT350.

11. I still have doubts: Buy a GT.
Penultimate means next to last. I'll wait for the final guide. ;)

We need one of these for, "Is the PP worth it?"
Couldn't tell you on that. I went base GT, no options of any kind. Wanted to keep the price down super-low at the time.

That being said, I hated the PP wheels and tires, and I already had the strut brace and cowl extension k brace (long story, don't ask). And the gauge pack thing I saw as gimmicky.

So from the PP, the suspension upgrades and the 3.73 gears were the only things I actually *wanted*. The brake upgrade was nice, too, but I didn't care enough. Certainly not interested in replacing the base brakes -- they are very good anyway, in my view.

So maybe I'll do the 3.73 gears sometime, and work on the suspension some. Maybe it costs me more than the original Performance Pack cost. I don't know. Would be worth checking back after I do, I suppose.

Thanks for your honest response. Sorry, my post was a bit tongue in cheek as the PP vs Non question seems to spawn a new post every week. Seems like half the posts in the entire forum are cyclical, but I guess that's somewhat normal as new folks come in all the time. It does however suggest that few search to see if a prior post already exists.

Dude, I was pumping gas a few weeks ago and this pickup truck stops on the other side of the pump. This guy and his short, chubby 15 year old that looked like he was maybe 12, walk over and start admiring my car. He starts asking me all of these questions about it. How do I like it? Is it fast? Is it fun? blah, blah, blah...

Then he hits me with, "yeh, my boy here is about to turn 16 so I was thinking about getting him one."

What!? Are you freaking crazy!? Oh....I get it. You just added a nice little life insurance policy on your boy there. Now it all makes sense.

Seriously, this was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard. There is no way I would every buy a 16 year old a brand new Mustang. Especially a GT but even an EB or V6 would be completely out of the question...unless you're seriously trying to get rid of them. Then, by all means...
A few weeks back I rode over to Tampa on a Friday night. I went to see the car clubs meet for their weekly get together. I saw pretty much what I expected 5 to 10 yr old ricers dressed up and pretty. Lots of LED kits and tons of tiny wide wheels and camber a plenty. There were clubs with logos on the windshields and then there were a few guys like me older with serious Detroit iron. But the thing that struck me was the obvious youngster who drove in with the new M4. He never got out of the car I guess we were below his station.

My only quibble is with the incorrect use of "penultimate." Other than that, right on!
I did not want to say "ultimate", because I knew someone would just say "buy GT is ultimate list". But I regret the use now, because you're the third grammar nazi to come out of the woodwork with that correction.

God knows I didn't expect that on a Mustang forum, lol.

My 1st car at 16 was a 1969 Camaro RS with the 300hp 350. I was hit by a guy driving in the bike lane at 45mph. With the insurance money, I bought my 2nd car, a 1969 Camaro RS with a really nice 350. This was back in 1989. Its not so much about the car, but the person driving it. My 1st Motorcycle was a CBR600 then a Yamaha FZ9 and now a Triumph Thunderbird. And at 16, I bought my own car with money that I got from an accident I was in. I was on a BMX bicycle and was hit by a car going between 60-80mph in a 45 zone. See, I do have a death wish, but yet to die.
