So, as most of you will know Bristol Street Gloucester fitted a new door to my GT and in the process painted the whole side of the car. Great!!

In doing so they removed the quarterlight and refitted it badly after mullering it getting it out. Now I have carried out the necessary repairs and have a new window in the way.

Moving on to the door I have noticed the door glass is not fitted correctly and is way off in its shut dimensions. It should be 10mm from the steel flange and 10mm down from the door opening at the rear and 9mm down at the front. This comes from the FORD manual, so you’d think that having the work done at a FORD garage the work would be good? Well, all the above dimensions are around 20to 22mm on my car!!

So, I’ve had to remove the door card to get in there and adjust it all. Guess what I found?? Damaged trim, missing clips, torn rubber trim and NO wax!!

Why do Ford make such a fuss of having Ford insurance so you only get genuine Ford parts, well, the parts they can be bothered to fit that is!!
I’m so pissed off right now!!

dealerships are all franchised its not really ford themselves apart from ford have no quality control/care about their franchisees services or facilities.

the dealerships themselves work on such low margins that they hire people as cheaply as possible skills are optional. you're always much better going to specialist auto shops or independent especially if they've got an older dude who's a proper mechanic not a fitter. lets face it all "mechanic courses" these days at college teach you how to remove parts and fit new parts and plug shit in most of them have no idea about how an engine or even a car as a whole actually works.

Hinch is correct - they dont have any real "skills" -

in fact the Ford dealers main skill is "sell it quick and bodge it cheap" - a great sales technique that works once!

I know I wont allow Ford dealers near my car now...

once bitten ...

Thanks for your replies guys.

It’s good to know so many owners feel the same. I’ve had it with Bristol Street, they will never see another penny of my hard earned cash, in fact I may never buy another Ford?

We all know the build quality of these Mustangs is pretty poor in areas, but the dealer network literally sucks!! How many owners have had to correct the work carried out by their manufacturer approved dealer? It’s a joke!!

I think I’ll send pics and bills to Ford customer service once I’ve got this repair sorted, they’ll probably tell me I’ve voided my warranty because I worked on the car myself?? Joke innit!!

i voided most of my car warranties within about 2 hours of owning the car as the first thing i did was bring it home and strip it only thing i haven't done so far is cracked the block but that'll be happening soon for mmr opg/cs and chain rails so yeah warranty isn't worth shit

I assume you guys are taking it to FordStores which are Mustang "approved", not just any old Ford service? Ive found the one I bought my Mustang from and the one I get it serviced with better than the other manufacturers I have experience with - BMW/Hyundai dealers.

I’m looking for a good dealer to carry out the recall on my RS. If BS can’t put a door together, how on earth could they fit a head gasket correctly??

Actually - that should read "you do seem to have a lot of issues with Ford dealers" IMHO

the quality of dealers (Mustang approved ones!) is absolutely awful - the quality of the Mustangs is ok (not great - but ok)

It seems that there ARE some fantastic Ford dealers and service shops - but they are the exception - not the rule...

Yes but a starter for ten would be to ensure you're taking it to a Mustang Ford Store not just Joe Blogs Ford who mainly deals with Fiestas

totally agree - and I will be a little amazed if Mustang owners dont take their cars to Mustang approved service shops initially!

Yup. Once my new Mustang arrives I'll never be taking it to Ford to get it serviced. Repairs are another matter since they have the parts catalogue, but normal servicing intervals? There's a Stratstone around the corner, and if they can service a Range Rover SVR with no problems, they can service a lump of American Pig Iron :D

^^^^Stratstones forgot to reinstate the linkage for the self levelling headlights on my Aston...

I wondered why everyone was flashing their headlights at me at night... a small local independent garage quickly found out why and reconnected the linkage rod..:D
