I would love to pick y'alls brains around 1911's. I realize that's probably a contentious topic and I don't want to turn this into one.

I own a TRP and love it. I'm trying to figure out which 1911 will be my next. But please don't say WC, NH, LB, etc. Too $$$.

I'm actually considering something in commander sized, possibly allow frame and chambered in 9mm. Anyone have any experience with these?

I won't lie, I love my full size 1911, I love the 45 ACP but I have to wonder if shorter barrel, alloy frame + 45 ACP == do. not. like. I realize it's all subjective and one person's like is another person's dislike.

Anyone have any opinions on the matter?

Looking at STI 1911/2011 Guardian possibly. Or S&W PC 1911 -- though this pistol is only chambered in 45 ACP, it is commander sized and alloy frame.

I have thought about just calling Springfield Armory's custom shop to build what I want. Cheaper than the above mentioned smiths but still a pretty penny.

In all of my years, the only gun I sold for a loss was a 1911.

My first and last one... not even the gunsmith could get that POS right.

Although, coming from Glocks, the 1911 gave me plenty of practice on what to do when a gun jams. It was great in that regard.

I will never again in my life own another 1911... I definitely would not trust one with my life.

Glocks look like sht... but darn if they don't go BOOM every time you pull the trigger.

If I wanted a 45, I'd get a 45 Glock.

I like 9mm... recently purchased two 9mm glocks, g43 and g19. Great guns. Still own my glock 40 cal... 40 is a great round. But I love to shoot the 9mm...

That is my opinion.... and I will leave it at that... no more comments from me on the matter. ;)

Everyone shoot what they love and what they believe will protect their family...

While I've had some issues with my 1911, I attribute them to still breaking it in. Hence why I do not use it as a carry weapon yet. I agree with the ugliness of glocks, by after shooting and now owning a G43, I use that as my carry every day.

My point is, if you are going to use a gun for personal protection, you best damn well know it inside and out, and fire thousands of rounds through it.

Glocks are amazing, style is simple but they work wonders only time it ever jammed on me was the first time I just got it took it to the range pulled the trigger and it doable feeded in to the chamber, other then that never had had a single issue with her since.

1911's are beauts IMO but you need to know how to maintain and also fire them and as well figure out a issue if one arises, and it does at times.

I've never experienced a failure with either of my 1911s, one is a cheap RIA and one is a genuine Colt. My Glock is one of the earliest Gen 4 models and it had some serious 6 o clock ejection issues until I brought it to a master armorer to swap the ejector. 1911s are not all made alike, and their parts require hand fitting - something a Glock is not designed around. Although I will say, a .45 caliber Glock will always have a bulky grip, even if it's a short frame model. They are no where near as natural in the hand as a 1911 (unless you get a double stack 1911 in which case...what's the point). I trust both, I prefer the 1911 (my RIA specifically) because it's what I shoot best and have complete knowledge of. It's all preference.

1911s are nice I carried one in Chicago for years. Then after moving to Florida and getting involved in action pistol shooting I found the style to be lacking. I tried the Springfield XD and found to be a much better pistol for competition. I picked up a Glock 30 for carry and yes it is 99.9999% reliable but it is ugly. When Sig Sauer introduced the P227 I found the perfect pistol for me. It has the capacity of the Glock and dependability. It has the tune ability of the 1911 and it's accuracy is awesome. Then it also has the DA/SA action of the Walther PPKs making it quick to get into action.

Anyone have a Sig P320? I think that's my next purchase when I get some spare change.

Just started selling Firearms in my part time. Picking up a Kimber Stainless Raptor II for 40% off retail. NY is a difficult place to buy and sell.

That's the midsize one, right?

I have a Glock 22, and then a 27 for concealed carry. I was thinking that midsize "compact" P320 wasn't much bigger and was capable of carrying.

I like the look, the trigger felt nice. Just haven't shot one yet. Also was toying with the idea of getting it in 9mm just to ensure I have round availability either way.

Yes it is the "midsize" version but it's not very compact. It's a double stack .40 so it holds 13+1 rds, the 9mm holds 15 I believe. However the great thing about the 320 (if you don't know) is you can swap the trigger set to any sized frame without having to buy a whole new gun. Now you can have a .45, .40, .357, and 9mm and you only need to buy one trigger set.

I posted a pick of my 320 in post #402 of this thread.

Yeah, I like it. Haha. I knew you could swap barrels but not about trigger sets. I know the Glocks are capable as well, but never really though about it. Might be good for when ammo in one caliber gets too expensive.
