I've always just showed up on the spot to test drive. I am very very specific as to what car I want.

Most salesmen are clueless. I inquired about a GT Premium PP w/ 401a that it turned out the dealer had just sold. They had no more PP. The sales guy for 2 days straight leaving me text messages, voicemails, pictures, emails of all these other mustangs that were not even close.
Stuff like "I know you wanted the PP so I found this one on our lot that has 20s and the display screen, its the same thing except cheaper!" Mind blowing.

Reminds me of my real estate guy "I know you told me a 2 bedroom condo for $200,000 but I gotta show you this awesome 5 bedroom for 379,000 it's perfect!!!"

Well i am planning on test driving some different cars: GT, m235i, gti/golfr. Today i did the call ahead on bmw and all i could drive was a 228i. It is basically a slower, cushier, non sport 235. It was pretty bad tbh. The salesman flat out lied like 5 times and said the 235 drives the exact same, just bigger engine. He said there was no performance upgrades for the 228 beyond what i was driving . They offer a M suspension option and a variable m suspension option. He was either completely worthless or was just trying to get me to buy the 228. He had a terrible personality to boot.

Next i did a walk in at the VW dealership down the road and got to drive a GTI and it was a blast compared to the 228. Felt light and fun even if not the fastest car on the road. The salesman was a lot more chill too. He insisted that i just meet his manager at the end and he tried to close me a bit and ask about my trade, am i buying or leasing yada yada but i said i am just in the beginning of the process and looking anywhere from a gti all the way up to a cayman and he left me alone at that point.

Hope to try a GT next but may wait until Sep because the salesmen will be either busy or desperate to sell in the next couple of days and i am not an impulsive buyer

If you want to test drive a mustang bring your S/O with you or a friend. I doubt the salesman will want to squeeze their ass in the backseat for any length of time.

I just walked in and the salesman let me test drive without asking for my license. It was even during a busy Saturday afternoon.
