I'm trying to sell a bunch of stuff as we speak to order this thing, and get one ordered. As soon as I get it, I'm gonna pull every bit of info off it I can before installing it, and see what I can find for USB connections that may be hidden. Gonna dissect the hell out of it, for the benefit of the forum! If this is really Android is pretty nice! There's no way you could grab the .apk? I've been programming on Android for almost 10years. The reverse engineering is pretty nice and simple to do on an .apk We could possibly replicate this unit with an Android tablet and re-write the code of the app. All we will need after is an FM transmitter/Receiver and we are good to go! (Maybe an Arduino to control the A/C Control unit...)
Yeah they still work and theyre very customizable. If i remember later im going to take a picture. It basically has a picture of the steering wheel with all the buttons and you just map it out the way you want too. Just like a joystick on windows. Actually i havent tried voice commands ever since the day i bought the car. To me it was terrible lol. But ill try it to see what happens. And with spotify i could either download the songs or set up my phone as a personal hotspot and the unit connects through there. Or like others have mentioned have a internet dongle attached to the unit. The unit also has a built in hotspot as well. Yeah on top you would either click music to access on board music or tethered connections, or click the bluetooth icon to play music directly from your phone. How are the steering wheel controls, they still work and are responsive? Is SYNC or voice commands lost? I see you have Spotify running, but what about when your out on the road with no WiFi? How does audio do tethered to the unit, is there a media player app or something? Have you thought about making a video are flipping through the option s for everyone to see?
When i have time ill make a video and grab you the APK! But i think theres an app on the play store that can grab the apk for me, or i have to take apart the dash to access the usb dongle behind the unit. Let me see if i can get it for youIf this is really Android is pretty nice! There's no way you could grab the .apk? I've been programming on Android for almost 10years. I can guarantee it eliminates SYNC, it will be replaced with "Ok Google" on the tablet. Thanks for the info. I'd love to see the boot up process, a run through the wheel config you mentioned, a run through the radio setup, how the units media player works when streaming music from bluetooth and just overall functionality of anything you found that's cool. Is SYNC eliminated from this unit?
That'll be nice man! From what Pablotheartist said there's a usb dongle behind the unit... Thanks for your help it'll be awesome to get those information. Do you have any picture of the back of the unit by any chance? I don't think you need to remove the unit to dump/save the apk though... You could do everything on the unit itself and send yourself the .apk over email. You will need maybe the following apps installed: Apk Extractor and File Manager (to get access of the apk located at "storage/emulated/0/ExtractedApks/"). I'm pretty sure you're right if this unit is an Android. I would actually prefer "Ok Google" than SYNC IMO... Plus we could modify the build.prop and get the new google assistantI can guarantee it eliminates SYNC, it will be replaced with "Ok Google" on the tablet.

Yeah theres two micro usb dongles behind the unit and one standard usb dongle behind. Yeah! thats what i was looking into, i was going to ask you if that was okay with you if i went that route as its a lot easier lol, I was actually browsing those two apps on the google play store in the car yesterdayThat'll be nice man! Tomorrow morning im going to go behind the unit to finish placing the gps reciever, ill take pictures of all the dongles. Theres a few i didnt use as i think they pertain to the premium models, I know for a fact that a purple dongle was back there and that was for the siruis XM antenna, i didnt buy an antenna and probably wont anyways lol but i know thats one of them.
Yeah and according to the ebay seller HD radio, but the latter is questionable...this will allow us to have SAT RADIO ?!?!?!?
