My windshield had a two foot crack occur during a road trip last weekend. I had it replaced this week by Safelite. Only positive was that they used SoundScreen OEM Glass. They did a horrible job with the chalking around the windshield as it is visible all the way around the windshield. Some of the plastic shielding below the windshield wasn't fully seated and reinstalled. On the inside the car stunk pretty bad and has a fine coating of black dust on everything. There were pieces of the old chalking and plastic bits all over the inside of the car. Found some of the black windshield chalking on the passenger door handle. I don't know what everyone else's experience was with them but I won't be their customer again.

That is unfortunate...I had to have my windshield replaced as well by safellite and he did a absolute perfect job but then again I was over his shoulder the whole time and kept reminding him to not to f*** up my baby. He laughed and was a cool guy. All in the individual installer I guess.

I would put that more on the installer. With a company that large, you never know who you are going to get. We have had great success with them at work, though.

I think its standard procedure for Safelite to contact you at least twice concerning your satisfaction. Talk to them first, if they don't make it right you have a reason to boycott them. Not every installer graduated at the top of the class. After 40 years in the service business I can safely say no company delivers excellent service 100% of the time. Let them know and the installer gets more training or the boot.

I'd be calling them for sure and complaining and asking them to re-do the entire process.

Just curious why wasn't the windshield covered by Ford if it cracked without anything hitting it? To me it cracked due to how it was installed into the frame at the factory, no?

I had a VW R32 that I needed a new windshield on, they came out and replaced it, all was well until the next day when I got in and the mirror was hanging, so I called them and they came out and replaced it again because they didn't know why the mirror fell off, next day, same thing, mirror hanging...I called them again and they said that maybe their stock was bad and brought out a different brand windshield that may or may not have worked as I turned the car in off lease the next day....won't use them again.

it has an engine!
I prefer PGW for installs. Their glass is going in the new Ford Gt. When back in my hometown i like c&w glass as well since they deal in carlite which is the ford recommend aftermarket glass and do great installs. Id never use Safelite for an install.

I had a bad experience with them as well on my replacement. Had the identicle factory glass installed. I wasn't happy about having to do it in the first place as I only had about 5k miles on the car at the time. It looked brand new, I was really nice to the guy, but he apparently didn't care.

He completely half assed the install. There were scuffs in the paint around the windshield, it was slightly off center and when I drove it air was leaking in the cabin from the left side. The rear view mirror vibrated so hard you couldn't make out anything in it. They were rough as hell with the headliner. The worst part was when taking a hard right turn there was a terrible ripping noise from the seal across the top of the windshield.

A few days later they had someone else come out and re install it and the guy had a laundry list of things that were done incorrectly he went over wth me. Like most things, your mileage may vary.

I just got a crack in my windshield as well. What are we looking at price wise from them for replacement?
