Three weeks ago I received a crack to my front windshield on the way to San Diego from Phoenix. My glass coverages uses Safelite for glass replacement and repair.
Two weeks ago a Safelite Tech came out, performed the work and did a less than satisfactory job in my opinion.
Major
Minor
I could care less about the minors things as I can simply clean the inside of my car and it is taken care of.
However, the major gripe that I had was the black spots of caulking and primer that are easily visible from afar on a white car.
I got ahold of Safelite and they sent out a warranty replacement today.
Come to find out today that the majority of what I thought was caulking originally is actually black primer that is used when they scrape into the paint. The technician showed me the tools and told me that they just don't have the right tools to not scrape the paint. My opinion is that if a company is aware that some vehicles replacements will result into scraping into the paint, why not include a bottle of touch up for the technician. Using black primer on every color vehicle and not having the right tools for the job is just a poor business practice and definitely has lost my business.
If I am not mistaken I'm sure Ford Dealerships do not have these issues of having excess caulking squeeze out from under the windshield and using black primer to cover up scraped up spots. It seems that now I will need to go out and purchase some touch up paint to cover the black primer used around my windshield.
I hope I am not alone on this concern, If it was a single area where this occurred I wouldn't care as much but due to it effecting the entire perimeter of the windshield it is bothersome. So FYI, more than likely if you use Safelite for a windshield replacement you will find black primer used on your windshield bezel.

Major
- Black "Primer" and Caulking visible around the windshield.
Minor
- Lots of black dust throughout the car from the old caulking was found.
- Chunks of the old caulking and plastic bits were found throughout the car
- The plastic covers on the bottom of the windshield were not properly reinstalled.
- Found caulk on my passenger side door handle.
- They clean the windows as a courtesy but it was worse than leaving them be.
- The car smelled badly of body odor for a week.
