3000mi+ drive across country. I was going to layer up on painters tape, even though it'll look a bit unsightly. If temp clear bra is not difficult to put on, I might try that instead.

How many layers of painters did you put on, and how did it hold up for you?

I put on one layer.
It held on solid even at 100mph+.
The only thing is its ugly.
Honestly, just spend the money and put clear bra on. Be done once for all.

Is painters common for tracking a car, and have you seen any rocks or pebbles penetrate it?

Yes, a lot of people put painter tape on their cars for protection.
I mean it will provides some protection but it's not metal after all so rocks big enough will still go through the paper and hit the paint.

Do you have any tips or tricks on applying the tape? On average how long does it take for you to tape up the front end and other areas?

Im pretty sure there are temporary clear bra products out there. I know there are some spray on clear stuff (like plasti-dip but not) out there too that leave a rubberized clear coating to prevent chips.

Flying over to pick up the car, and driving across country. It's going straight in for clear bra once I get back. You always want to do it local in case issues arise, you can have them remedy it.

Ok that makes sense I thought u were just doing a road trip or something. Painters tape does work, just being a spare roll with you. Hopefully the sun doesn't hit it to bad to make it super sticky.

As for rock chips, I think road trips are easier on paint than in town freeway driving. Rocks don't float in the air. Something has to throw them up for the front of your car to hit them. So if you aren't driving right behind someone the rocks aren't there to run into. Now bugs are a different story but more for their chemistry than chips. Several coats of a good sealant does a decent job protecting from the acid.
