Techron safe for 2020 Stang GT?

So I was at my local shell the other day, and I was considering adding some Techron Fuel Injector cleaner into my 2020 Mustang Gt with 33k miles. I’ve heard Techron is one of the best brands. And I had just recently got an oil change. So when I pulled up there was this older white man staring my car down. Couldn’t tell if he was admiring or judging. But any who he walked in then I walked in as well and I was looking at the Techron bottles reading what not. As he walked by he says very aggressively “don’t be stupid and add that shit to your car” “that shit will fuck up your engine, I am a mechanic and work on my own cars! I have my own fox body so I know my stuff” and he repeats “ don’t he stupid” in a somewhat yelling way. Me, Im 19 and not so ballsy so I just laughed it off and said “thanks for the tips” . And I just went with my day. But had that thought in my head all day, “was he right? Is he just being a dick?” As I said I’m 19, this is my first car so I’m trying to learn everything I can. Slowly but surely, I used to drive my moms 2011 camry on a daily to work and what not. But never claimed it as MY car because it was my moms and she never said I could have it. So As I worked I saved up and ended up financing ny dream car as my first car, the mustang. Now this is a huge difference from older cars so I obviously want to keep it top notch and make it last the longest. So what’s everyone’s input on this? Was the grumpy man correct ? Or maybe he’s had bad experiences with Techron?

The 18+ engines run fairly clean so adding a fuel injector cleaner will, most likely, not make any improvement. But Techron will not hurt your engine if you follow the directions. Also use a TopTier gas. It can/does make a difference.

Chevron gas has that in it already so many people use at least some of it with no problems.

From experience, of both Chevron gas and Techron, no, the product/s will not harm your car.

If you use a Top Tier gasoline consistently, there's really no need to add Techron.

If purchasing a used car with an unknown history, it might be a step towards goodness to use Techron once and Top Tier gasolines from there on out.

Most people have the best experience applying the product to a full tank of gas, then going on a long highway trip.

The worst experience I've encountered with Techron involved a car we performed a tune up on. As part of the process, we'd use Techron, both down the carb (years ago, eh?) and in the tank (one application each).

The customer returned a few days later to complain the car was not running right. We checked. One of the plugs had failed. Upon review, a piece of carbon big enough to get between the electrode and ground has lodged itself in the plug.

The guy at the pump might have had a like experience and blamed it on the product.

Techron and Shell's "nitrogen" are two of the best. All I ever use is 93 Shell, just because I have fuel perks and 93 has a larger dose of additives.

Many of my cars had Techron doses every oil change. THat guy is probably one of the wing nuts that will tell you 5w-20 will kill your engine just because he's been running 10w-30 for 50 years, or only changes oil every 3k miles.

After 33k miles of running fuel through the injectors can we expect one small bottle of stuff in one tank of fuel to do any meaningful cleaning?

The old man has his head up his ass. Techroline is just what an injection system needs. Chevron invented it and it's in all upper tier fuels. Adding a bottle every few tanks will not harm your motor.

I’ve never heard of it causing engine problems, however I’m not convinced it’ll actually clean out your injectors. I’m with Bob on this one.

Snake oil. Gasoline is is solvent. Fuel is filtered 2 times before getting to the injectors. The injector screen then filters again. If your car sat for a year or two, sure, run some through it, but no car driven often will have “dirty” injectors. I’ve removed many sets of injectors from fuel rails that were 15-25 years old with 100K miles, and the fuel injectors were operating properly and spotless.

It's not going to ruin your engine, that's ridiculous. Some fuel cleaners are definitely more useful than others, though (some bordering on useless). The cleaning agent that is the most important is PEA. Gumout regane and techron all in one are also good and easily found on the shelf, unlike redline.

A car that's driven regularly and uses top tier fuel shouldn't need to be cleaned but we don't live in a perfect world and filters aren't full proof. Just shutting off the car with hot injectors (like from running at high rpm) can cause them to heat soak and the fuel to varnish over time. Deposits that make it past the fuel filter can then get stuck in the varnish. This won't stop the injectors from spraying but it will affect the spray pattern of the injectors, which does affect performance.

You don't need to run them all the time but once every year/couple years, or if you suspect a bad tank of gas, isn't a bad move (nor is it expensive). The advice I was given, from a gentleman who cleans fuel injectors for a living, was to run one tank using a PEA cleaner once a year to clean up varnish. If I was buying a used car or wanted to be extra diligent, I should then run through a tank of gas as normal, then fill up again using https://www.walmart.com/ip/B-12-Chemtool-Fuel-Injector-Cleaner/16817404 and do some spirited driving (this is good for deposits). In their opinion, this is the best one can do without physically cleaning the injectors.

I have become to agree with this more on adding it... I've had to run 93 Octane in my last 4 cars, and generally, 93 has a higher dose of additives depending on who you buy from. I stopped adding techron years ago.

The cars and tech are really at a point where you just buy top tier and don't worry about it. PLenty of cars buying whatever they can find are fine too.
