MFT does NOT update itself. You have to update it via USB. The SYNC maintenance screen that comes up sometimes is because it detected a problem and has reset itself and is rebooting.

MFT does NOT update by itself....and does NOT update through wifi. Wifi is only for creating a hotspot within the car itself. Sync is updated by usb through fordowner.com or by an IDS at the dealer.

You have to log into owner.ford.com to download it. You will find all the instructions there.

Khyber: it seems that you have premium package with nav thats probably why you get OTA updates.

Yes I logged in to ford site (in which I have registered and it knows my vin) and after clicking a link that says check for sync update it found an update for my vin with a link to download. Has to be installed on an empty usb drive formatted as fat 32. There are also included links with instructions. Car has to be running during update. I started the update and the drove around while it updated. Took maybe 15 to 20 minutes.

Mine said it was up to date, and I have the SIRI feature so I guess I have the latest one

Mine says I'm up to date as of March 2015, but says my version number is 3.7

3.7.11 and 3.7 are both current. 3.7 is actually "newer" than 3.7.11 but Ford will not do a user upgrade from 3.7.11 to 3.7

These are for MFT which is different than the basic SYNC system that other may be referring to.

Mine says "Your last update was confirmed on October 14, 2014" and it says "Your SYNC is up to date."

I find it hard to believe that there hasn't been a software update in a year.? My version shows to be EA5T-14D544-AB

That version is 3.7.11, you are at the latest for user updates. Ford has had all hands working on SYNC3. SYNC2 is pretty stable now so we won't be seeing much for updating on it.

I have a base V6, so the sync is as basic as it gets. After seeing this thread I checked, and I did have an update available.

I have had a problem over the last 4 or 5 days where I couldn't get Pandora to run at all. I did a couple master resets, restarted the phone, etc, but it could never find Pandora as a new app.

So I found a 16Gb thumb drive and downloaded it - it took a good bit to download and was only about 568MB, so I think it was a poor wifi connection with my laptop.

The instructions on the Ford site on how to install on the car were for the MFT, so I just started the car, turned on the radio, plugged in the thumb drive, and trudged thru the sync setting menu to INSTALL ON SYNC.

After that it cycled thru the system a couple times, but I went inside and got dinner started instead of watching it. After 15 minutes I went out and scrolled down to "view software version" or whatever it was, hit the center button, and it didn't do anything at all. Another 5 minutes later I tried again, and it came up saying it was version 5.8. I backed in to the garage, and shut down the car. This morning I had to re-pair my phone, and INSTANTLY had Pandora. I didn't have to search for it or anything.

If you are having Pandora problems, I would recommend checking for an update - it sure seems better than it was!

i updated mine to 5.8 today using a usb key as per the instructions on the ford site. my problem is when i'm confirming the update, it says upload unsuccessful.

I also did the Sync update on my system. Had the same problem confirming the update on the Ford website. I did notice that when I chose the .XML file from my usb drive and it placed it in the upload box on the Ford website it said fakepath in front of the file name. Maybe this has something to do with it?

that's a great point. i noticed that also but didn't think it was dumb enough to try to find the file there. guess what, i created a fakepath folder in the root of c:\ and copied the xml file there, then uploaded it from there, and it worked....

Is the siri activation just on the base model? I have the premium with MFT and I have 3.7 and holding the voice button does nothing. No siri activation and I desperately want that.

MFT does not have built in Siri activation.
