I have Sync 3 installed on my 2018 GT. I wanted to see if there are any updates so while my car is sitting in my driveway, connected to my home WiFi, I selected to update the software...but it said "scanning for update" for about 10 minutes without anything else happening. Will this process actually work? Or is it ONLY possible to update via a USB drive?

Does it make sense to download to USB from the for Ford owner site Ver 3 when I already have ver 3 installed? Is it possible that they make incremental updates while still keeping it as ver 3.0?

Resurrecting this old thread...

Swapped from the 4" screen to the 8" Sync 3.3 screen in my 2018. I have a good wifi connection but when I ask it to check for updates it just sits there spinning saying "scanning for updates...". Any way to break out of this loop?

Force it to fail... disable your wifi long enough for it to fail... I'm sure you have turn your car off and on again... so this should work... it needs to fail... 8)
