That Taurus swap was done by someone in the industry by his own posts there. Obviously anyone with access to a working Sync 3 right now is in the auto industry. So obviously cost and know-how wasn't a factor in that setup as the factory/engineers probably hooked it all up.

I wouldn't pay thousands extra to convert a 2015 to Sync 3, nor would I wait for a 2016 with Sync 3. The Sync 2 is just fine and the 3 is bound to have bugs and issues just like any new gadget out of the gate.

I'm willing to bet that there will probably be about as many people that will hate the sync3 for whatever reason(s) as much as the people who hate sync2.

I have a hunch the people who are waiting solely for the sync3 setup are most likely the types that are so nitpicky, nothing will satisfy them.
Doubt it. Won't miss the lag, won't miss the lame way of entering a destination address, wont miss the way you are forced to say certain things.

We have had it in our Taurus for the past two years and believe me, after you have used it as much as we do, you will most likely agree that Sync2 has some major flaws. If you are a casual user of it to change your music stations then you will most likely not notice the flaws.

The SHO swapper got outed on one of the other boards;

I think it's safe to say he has access to resources and skills that the average bear won't have if/when they undertake the swap.
I wonder if given ~2 years the aftermarket will figure out a way to do the swap cleanly, professionally, and affordably. If I order the 2015 after-all this would be a swap I'd save up for to get done at the end of my warranty. If a place could do a clean swap for $2k (system + install) I'd do that

Hard to say with certainty, but I'm betting it'll be figured out. How much does a replacement head unit for our cars run? I would base my initial guess at the swap price on that.

At the very least I'm sure there will be aftermarket headunits that are Android Auto compatible. I mean Pioneer just came out with their first Android Auto/Carplay aftermarket headunit so I'm assuming that a better looking system that fits the 2015 would come out. I mostly just want SYNC3 for Android Auto compatibility + responsiveness. The actual interface of SYNC3 itself isn't very appealing.

Bingo, see my post 2 up #31. He's in the auto industry (apparently a Sync 3 engineer at that) so cost was not a factor in the swap. It could be a test car or personal vehicle where it cost $10k, who knows what it really would cost for average joe. He probably didnt pay a dime though.

The only part of Android Auto I'd be interested in is real-time traffic in Google Maps -- Sirius real-time sucks -- but my bigger concern is reliability. My Galaxy S5 reboots itself once or twice a day (better than before the most recent Android update, when it rebooted itself 40 or more times a day -- yes, really; sometimes it would reboot itself thirty seconds after the last reboot). I want my car system to be more stable and reliable than my phone, and not to get slow and buggy after four or five years of use.
Well, you've pinpointed the problem...next step is to fix it :D Get yourself an iPhone... :cheers: Don't mean to start a Android vs. iPhone debate...just giving you a hard time. I was in your shoes a few years ago and made the switch and never looked back! :thumbsup:

who buys a 400hp car for it's touch screen interface lol

that's why i bought a 2015...plus i think sync 3 is an ugly blackberry mess.
This is coming from a guy that got the 401a package, Nav, premium trim?? The same could be said for you buying a 400hp car and not just getting the base model....we all like our conveniences with our cars. Most of us buy our cars to be a total package. When an automaker fails on one part of the car, they will get called out on it and people like us will want to upgrade it if we can.

I'm sure there were people in the 90s saying their AOL dial-up worked just fine, and didn't see the need for broadband internet.....Let us know in a couple of years how you feel about your Sync2 MFT and that horrible NAV system, while we will be using our latest phones to run Google Maps with updated traffic info & routing. :D

I'm looking to either do this Sync3 swap, maybe using junkyard parts once some people start wrecking the 2016s, if it is cost prohibitive. Otherwise, I'll be looking to the aftermarket. The trick is going to be integrating the HVAC system. Hopefully the aftermarket will be able to help us out there too to make is a seamless swap. Alpine is making some nice looking systems that have CarPlay.

My AOL dial up still works fine, just takes a few hours to open load a picture:amen:
