Sync 2 - opinions.

Well, the Sync2 in my car is certainly quick enough. Only the nav sometimes can be a little sluggish compared to say, the MMI system in my A6 (which is superb).

..or compared to a 79 eur tomtom, or the free google maps
Integrated navigation systems are always beated by the stand alone systems. This is the first time I'll have one of these!

That's for sure. I totally agree.

In the other hand I HATE suction caps on windscreen like taxi drivers...

Even the new BMW series or Mercedes model the screen look like "a tablet on a dash"

I have the impression , that ONLY the latest implementations (i.e. Sync3) come closer to smartphones technology (capacitive screen, gestures etc).

The best (and latest) example of Tablet on the Dash are in the newVolvo XC90. Developed in conjuction with Apple. It actually works in a very similar manner....

The best in dash system was the one I had in my Alfa Romeo.. a Nexus 7 tablet with a ton of implementation!
I shot some videos before removing it and selling the car:

For a 1200€ navigation I was expecting it to have at least speed camera warnings build in, even my 150€ TomTom has it... but nope!

Otherwise my impression is that sync 2 is slow and can't find any decent updates and apps for Europe.

that's exactly what I was afraid to hear..... no coincidence that US market quickly introduced the new Sync3

This is something that NONE official magazine review can tell (for obvious reasons).

The point is that if someone order the car now will receive it beginning of 2016. When you'll receive it the Sync3 will be available on new orders.

it is the same that happened with sync2: it is introduced in USA in 2011 but arrived in Europe only a while back, maybe in 2014. We need translation and other changes, so it could not be simultaneous.
Sync3 is available now in USA, but we need to wait that Ford translate and modify it for Europe, so it's not an option for now.

Many people still have NO screens experience. It will be fabulous for them a new whole 8" touch screen!

Some others are beyond... (like papinist with 7" Nexus tablet installed at his previous car). There is NO OEM screen comparable to this.

Who would you trust for a review? :shrug:

That is true - I myself have no real screen in my E92, just a two line display of the tracks playing from the iPod in the center console, so for me it will be a huge improvement however it performs.

My wife's Nissan has a touchscreen which is nice by comparison but not spectacular in any way. As long as I can play music and connect my phone i'm fine with it.

Presumably anyone that wanted a tablet installed in their car could go ahead and do that? I'm aware of one thread at least on the forum where a member is detailing replacing the smaller base model screen they get in the US.

I tend to buy cars for driving anyway and never more so than the GT. At the time of order I had sufficient information to commit and i'm not going to get bent out of shape now over what Ford is or isn't giving us. There's little point - it is what it is.

all is based on your expectations. Sure we cannot expect an in-car-entertainment system to be as good as our samrtphone\tablet. Yes it SHOULD be, since it costs about 4-5 times the price of an average smartphone, but the reality is that car companies goes very slow on that.. or probably wants to maximize its earning and gives us a step at a time..

It seems to me unacceptable that giant motor companies cannot install latest technology screens which are widely available out there in market.

Unfortunately we have to live with these car industry rules. :shrug:

It's great but the only system I can compare it to is volkswagens nav infotainment, and Ford has that beat by a landslide.

It's actually a 600 euro navigation system, the other 600 are for the Shaker Pro upgrade.

To solve the speed camera omission: Just buy a 100 euro Garmin and drop it inside the armrest. Garmins automatically switch on when you start the car (provided your 12V outlet is contact switched) and despite not 'unlocking' the splash screen warning they will actually start to follow your route in the background and make noise when you pass speed cameras. TomTom does not do this, those you need to unlock first on the splash screen every time you start the car. With a Garmin you just drop in there and forget about it. I have one in my Audi (its 4500 euro navigation system doesnt have speed cameras either) for 5 years already, works brilliantly.
