Hi all,

I recently installed a Borla SwitchFire mid-pipe on my 2022 Mach 1, and it’s quieter than I expected. It’s only loud on cold starts and feels subdued the rest of the time. Could this be an exhaust leak, or is it just how the SwitchFire sounds?

If this is normal, what louder full exhaust systems would you recommend that still keep active exhaust functionality?

Also, after a few thousand miles, the car feels slower and less engaging than I hoped. What mods would you suggest to improve power and make it more fun to drive?

Thanks!

Can't comment on the Switchfire, but are you sure you have the active exhaust in track for the loudest setting?

as for the power-

Get yourself an E85 tune. This will wake it up nicely and add a good amount of low-end torque - something that the Coyote lacks. These cars in stock form really don't feel fast. (your 21' RS6 will destroy a stock GT or MACH1).

Don't waste your money on any other parts until you're ready for forced induction.

I think that mid pipe is quieter than just getting an H or X Pipe. I have an H on mine with stock active and it hits the sweet spot for me.

Powa wise. I e85 tune from Wengerd will keep you happy for a few months.... Then you'll get the forced induction bug... Ask me how i know....

E85 was great in the Mach
ESS blower is fine for now

E85 on the ESS blower when i get bored again. :)

Would you recommend headers staying N/A vs going FI?

Headers certainly will make it louder, but in my opinion aren't worth the cost/effort for the minimal gains you will get on an otherwise stock setup.

💯 on the headers recommendation.

I have the Switchfire pipe on my 22 GT with SW Headers and let’s just say quietness is not a problem. lol

I am currently planning on going with the Ford Performance Touring muffler as my next mod.

I appreciate all of your comments! I’ll try to check my clamps again when I get a chance. Unfortunately, E85 isn’t viable for me. As for forced induction, what would you guys recommend that’s reliable, especially in the Texas heat? Also, is the cost of forced induction even worth it? If I go with forced induction, I’ll need wider wheels/tires. At that point, it may be cheaper to find a used GT500 🤦‍♂️. What would the rough price point be for forced induction with installation—$10k+?

I would recommend you begin with CAI (cold air intake) and headers along and high flow cats and also considering a custom tune to push your Mach and achieve better performance and drivability overall.

If E85 is not available to you, then consider doing 93 octane plus Boostane which should bring you up to around 100-101 octane. A good tuner can help you maximize your current setup before you consider going boosted.

In terms of reliability, be aware you will always face the possibility of problems when you go boosted. Even the mighty GT 500 is not without its issues.

Centrifugal blowers are an excellent option for warmer climates. Twin turbos are also great.

@beefcake can give you the most competitive pricing on parts anywhere.

Probably close to that for a basic setup, with no fuel system which you don't need anyway if you aren't running E85. Just a boost-a-pump

Reliable and forced induction probably don't belong in the same sentence, but plenty of people on here daily drive boosted Coyote's. There are numerous threads for each type and brand. If you really want to learn about it, you'll need to dig in and do some reading.

You could certainly do a mild Centri setup for less than the cost delta between the MACH1 and a GT500. If you aren't willing/able to work on the car yourself, and you have the funds to switch to a GT500, I'd do that. Modifying to the point of forced induction leads you down a very deep rabbit hole. Don't get me wrong, 800 Wheel horsepower is a lot of fun, but it certainly comes with it's downsides and headaches.

I put 20k+ miles on my 2019 GT PP1 10r80 with a Switchfire with active exhaust, stock headers, mufflers, and cats. Quietness was never an issue, I used a decibel meter compared to the stock resonator and found the SW to be 10-20 decibels louder in Track mode. The resonance tone and loudness are not easily heard from inside the cabin (especially if youre running a sound tube and stock intake). Using the Injen CAI and sound tube delete (a 4-8 dollars for sound tube removal), the engine sound in the cabin is more natural. The feel of the car's sound and resonance is better felt.
Borla is about tone and performance, finding a sweet spot between the two, for the audiophile in us all. Some prefer ear drum perforatingly loud, others prefer a stock sound, while others prefer a balance of loudness and pleasing tones. To each their own, find your niche and be part of it!
Anyhoo. I hope my little insight helped. I now have a 2020 GT PP1 MT82, active Borla S-Type cat-back exhaust with an X-pipe, stock headers, Injen CAI, and sound tube delete. The sound is quite loud, I have a Switchfire to install on this one too, I just haven't yet. If I'm being honest, I'm truly enjoying the X-pipe and S-type muffler tones. I expected thr X to sound very RICEr, too loud - the S-type mufflers really wake up with the X-pipe.
TL;DR - go your own way, check your connections, delete thst sound tube, and try to build with the future mods in mind. :) Happy Mustang life to you!
Cheers.

I did the Switchfire and immediately could tell the difference vs stock. Especially in track mode... BUT, I came from a GT with catted long tubes and a full S type cat back and it was LOUD... So I appreciate the good tone, but not deafening noise...
