Sunroof and Mustangs aren't really synonymous. A sunroof hasn't been an option on the Mustang since the foxbody. Even then it was a flip up moonroof. I don't understand how someone would consider it a deal breaker.

I came from a convertible and my wife has a sun roof in her Honda. I hate the sunroof and always leave the shade pulled closed when we're in her car. Why? I wear glasses and the sun coming from above and hitting the back side of my sun glasses is a bitch to see. Wasn't so bad in a convertible because it was sun always behind the lens. The sunroof creates a partial shade one second, next second I'm being blinded. My eyes were going ape shit trying to adjust.

I had a sunroof on my last two cars and used maybe 3-4 times a year. It's just too hot here with the sun blasting in. I guess I could see the appeal for people in more temperate climates, but it's probably too much of a compromise (structure, cost, etc).

i had the glass top in my 2013 Shelby, had panorama roof in my Explorer limited and in my Fusion and I wish we had the option in the new S550 body style.

The curvature of the roof is too hard to make a sunroof.

I like the opposite of a sunroof:
A top for shade, but then no windows or doors. Oh wait, that's my '05 Jeep TJ.

I love that they do not offer a sunroof, one of the reasons the Mustang is perfect for me. At 6'4" a sunroof removes the precious head room I need in just about any car. Go Ford, no sunroof!!!

Materials today enable a panoramic roof with no structural loss. Porsche and others are doing it with no issues.

I love my car but it should have been an option in this day and age.

If you look at the drawings of the coupe, it has a huge opening with no cross members just like the S197. The design feature of the dips would be a problem. As far a rigidty, it is as rigid as as a coupe. Making the glass, even a simple cure however would probably make it cost prohibitive. I have owned 2 Mustang Verts and I would only consider a glass roof option as a possible substitute. Much bigger than any sunroof. I do not like the Lincoln retractable at all. Targa would be nice but rigidity would suffer unless you shored it up to the same level as a convertible and what would the point be then.

I think saying there is no structural loss is a little optimistic. Less of a structural loss sure. The S2000 was rigid as F with no roof. But, when we're talking about a normal sunroof, from Ford, not a company like Porsche, there's most likely going to be some sort of compromise in rigidity for a car with so much pressure to perform.

What structural loss happens from removing the steel is replaced by the glass (fixed panel).
The glass isn't directly connected to the roof, you're putting a giant hole in an object that is part of the main structure of the car. It just doesn't make much of a difference for most cars and how people use them. There's so many factors though. Other bracing, size of roof, shape of roof, blah blah blah.
