picked up the new Mustang a few weeks ago, 17 GT auto very happy no panel alignment issues and nothing to fault.
Only issue is the over the top ebony stripes have been applied very poorly with marks and lines all over the place.
The dealer is getting them replaced with no dramas, but I was wondering what have other peoples experiences with these stripes been.
Do they always have some kind of visible marks from being applied or car it be done successfully

Factory faded OTT stripes or aftermarket ones? Mine are factory and they look fine.

We've had two mustangs striped and both have been perfect.

Assuming these are vinyl then I imagine the problem is that whoever is fitting them is, to be blunt, no good at it.

We use a sign making company who do everything from boards to windows to full vehicle wraps, and I stayed to see our '16 being done and chatted with the fitter, who it turns out really loves hand pin-striping. They cut the stripes to our specs (we copied rally stripes the first time and Shelby Super Snake on the '18), including cutting logos (we've used GT and this time the pony also). Perhaps also worthy of note is they use a 3m product that has a lot of stretch and can be shrunk back to original with heat. The installer did a car with a pre-made kit the day after our '16 and next time I saw him he said he had to charge more to fit that than to make and fit ours as it was a pain to do.

OTT stripes are pretty simple in real terms, but probably really easy to stuff up.

Factory faded, sounds like you guys had good installers
the dealer says they will get them replaced just worried about the same result

I have the factory faded OTT stripes.

They managed to get a bit of crap underneath them whilst installing.

Was too much hassle to rectify, so I just decided to live with it.

Are those raised or scratches/marks? Either way it's not acceptable on a new car, but I will say that I've noticed that the stripes mark quite easily.

feels rough when you run your hand over them, anyway the dealer is aware so we'll see what happens when it goes in for the first inspection

Looks like whoever applied it didn't use an applicator with felt/material on it and instead did the one with bare plastic that can either cut or scratch the vinyl.

Sometimes they spray a little bit of something on the car that allows them to make little adjustments before they use the applicator to apply it properly (like how tint people do). But not all i don't believe. It probably depends on experience and/or if they're doing it on site or in-house.
