Is the top nut supposed to be above the mount body when fully torqued? Because mine are flush with the top of the mount.

Mine may be slightly below the top surface too, but just barely. It feels flush when you run a finger over it.
Also, what's this about removing the stock washer below the mount? I don't think the "washer", if that's what it is, comes off the FRPP shocks.

Yes, that is correct. The OP used a additional lock nut, which is not required.

Your washer on the FRPP shocks remain.

Yeah, when I was installing mine I looked at that existing "washer". I tried to remove it but it didn't budge. I just placed the washer that came with the kit on top of the other as per the instructions. I hope this is correct?

The ony kit you do not use the washer, is on the 555-8161

Made it safe and sound 2,500 miles to our Airbnb in Palm Springs. New mounts should be arriving today. Fortunately there is a nice roomy driveway to do some work.

Replaced the mount. Car is silent!! Was expecting to find a real beat up spherical bearing inside of the mount but it isn’t too bad. It’s a lot looser than the new one, though. You can spin it around very easily.

For due diligence, once I’m back home where I have more breathing room (couple of days) I’m going to reinstall the “failed” mount and test it again to make sure it was actually the bearing.

That good to hear, pretty much any slop in a spherical bearing means it’s toast. Pretty curious if it was just a bad bearing, or was damaged by road debris ingress.

Very interesting, I had one Steeda mount with a bound up spherical bearing and it kept twisting the nut loose, they got me a new set right away.

I haven't had time to get the car up and put the new ones on, but I have that EXACT same sound at the back drivers side. I've been hunting for it for a few days. I wonder if the stock mounts can fail the same way?

I have vacation next week and I plan to put the new Steeda mounts on so I guess I'll find out.

Super interested to hear what you find with your driver-side mount. Mine feels incredibly loose, like the outer race has worn away a bit. I'm not sure what it is made out of but perhaps a stronger composite would improve the life.

I just finally signed the lease on our new place and move in early next week. I've been living in a hotel for the last few weeks or would have done some more work to double-check my 'failed' mount and also do a proper loctite job on the new one I installed on the road.

Will report back on that as soon as I can and then will jet the failed part back to the folks at Steeda.

I'm surprised (but glad, for confirmation) to hear so many stories here... @Steeda have you investigated stronger spherical bearings or a different supplier?

To be clear, I have the popcorn sound with stock mounts, they came brand new with my Ford Performance shocks so I used them instead of reusing the originals while Steeda got me a new set of billet ones.

I don't begrudge failure of the spherical bearings because lets be honest, metal parts can fail and they are exposed to a lot of gunk and dirt from the road.

The stock mounts cannot have the same issue as there are no moving parts and the bushing the shock mates to is molded in. Make sure they are fully tight against the body, though. That can cause clicking/popping too.

My car is now silent (pop/clunk free) again.
