I've been following the release of the '15 for a while and have been dreaming about colors, different packages, etc. However, I'm starting to see some 2011 GT500s pop-up in my area for sale with pretty low mileage for around what I'm thinking I would spend on new '15 (a little less than 40k). I even went and test drove one yesterday and loved the feeling of all that power; it was cool.

This is where I'm wondering if I will be able to hold out until October/November for the '15s. What would you guys do?

Thanks

Yeah, I'm finding some great prices on new 2014's as well.

Could do a full suspension package with a big blower, and still come in less than the new stang....

Tough decision for some....personally, I'm waiting for new features and new body style.

I waited this long, a little longer can't hurt. Just sitting back to see what develops. The wait just might pay off.

no matter how impatient i get, it is a lot easier for me
right now you can only get Mustangs at indipendend Dealers (i.e. not factory-backed warranties)
Ford Germany right now tells us, by the end of the year they will offer the i4 and the v8 ...
so i have to wait. still thinking the 6th gen is worth the wait...
isn't the 6th gen gt (i.e. v8) said to be a Little faster than the current gen Boss 302...?

That's another thing...the GT500 I looked at yesterday was Certified Pre-Owned with warranty up to October 2017. That also makes it very tempting.

I walked away from the deal because they did not budge an bit on their price, which was odd to me. I figured they would have had some flexibility. Who knows...maybe they'll call back.

well, isn't that the game we are all used to Play anytime we have to deal with a dealer
a really "clean" and warranted gt 500 is very tempting indeed
and: you can get into the car right away. no one knows, when you could get your s550
we had to wait for more than a year for our ranger limited (see my Avatar)
get the gt500 now and in a year or two trade it in for the s550 of your dreams:love:

Be patient if you can and try to test drive the S550. If you pull the trigger prematurely on a 2011, it may feel pretty old to you once you start seeing those sexy new S550s running around. Obviously the GT gives up some power in comparison, but I suspect the overall driving experience will be far superior in the new model. And if you decide you like the Shelby better at that point, I'm sure there will still be plenty of them around for the taking... and you may find even better deals at that point because everyone will be wanting the new model.

The only existing model I personally would even consider forgoing an S550 for would be the '13-14 GT500, which is significantly better than the '11-12s.

But turning around here and playing devil's advocate, if you can get a good deal on an '11-12, someone else will have already taken the big depreciation hit. So if you look at things purely from a financial standpoint, it's probably not a bad way to go if you want to drive it for a couple years and then trade up to a newer model later. But how often is a purchase like the Mustang purely a financial one? You don't buy a car like this because it's a smart financial decision... that part of the equation is really secondary IMO.

Personally, a better chassis makes for a much more fun/entertaining drive than huge HP, so I am expecting the S550 GT to be a much better car -- overall -- than the current GT500. But, I also realize I am probably in the minority here when it comes to that.

Personally, I would definitely wait to drive the S550 before making a decision. Besides, by then, previous generations will be even cheaper. So if you decide to go that route you will save even more and have the knowledge you made the right decision.

$40k in the used market can get you some pretty nice machines if you want to go that route. Used M3's (if you search hard enough) being towards the top of my list.

Good points, everyone. Thanks for the responses. I think I'm just going to have to man-up and try extra hard to not take test drives and search the Internet sites for used car deals. I probably would kick myself in the butt for not waiting.

I'm planning on doing a pre-order (hopefully a little over a month), so maybe once I do that I will feel like the ball is rolling and I will be more set knowing one is being built for me.

My dealer didn't seem to know what he was talking about and told me to come by in August, after the full reveal in April do you guys expect pre-ordering to be possible?

I am trying to decide between a 13 Boss 302 and a s550. Not sure what I am going to do yet. Hard to wait when I have the means to get/want a car now!

The Boss 302 sure is a sweet ride, it has a glorious engine. However you are talking about the difference between a live axle and IRS which should be fairly dramatic, and the new car has a way better interior IMO. Tough call though. Also the s550 is supposed to be faster around the track.

I don't think it's a tough call at all, you will have instant regret when the new 550 beats the boss in every category.
