Hi,On USA AUTOMATICS ONLY you can start the engine from outside and I am told this is disableD in Export cars anyone know if it's a Software or Hardware issue and can it be reinstated ? but our Key Fobs are different to the USA ones i.e. At the top there are 2 buttons.

Nope... you can reinstall a bootleg remote start kit, but, just enabling it through ECU wont do anything.

One of the features I would have really liked also... have come across loads of cars starting in the parking lots, with no drivers in sight, outside shopping malls etc. when on trips to the US in recent years - normally to get the air-con or heater up to temperature by the time the driver gets there... which is a bloody great idea. Recently I've had to start and leave my car running for a good two to three minutes while the MAX A/C does it's job to avoid me losing two or three layers of skin on the seats!

Bloody EU bureaucracy bollocking up our lives and restricting our choices again!

Edit: Sorry... mildly political - might be banned under forum rules but needs to be said!

My understanding is that in the U.K. (If not whole of EU) it's illegal for a car to have its engine running without the driver in the car. Not sure if that's to do with emissions or for safety. Probably both.

Thats correct, recently I left my truck running while I ran across the road to get some cash from the bank machine.
A friendly copper collared me and informed me what I was doing was illegal. :D

Hence why it's only an option on the automatic, and the vehicle must be in park for it to function.

Yes you can't "quit" a running car. Mind you, I'm not sure if this applies to something on private property as opposed to a street. I thought this function might be nice, but I can't say I actually miss it. I secretly do enjoy pressing the button.
