If Spotify won't let you download outside of the app how do I get on the USB stick?
Or would it be better to get an iPod or similar - or put on my phone and make sure the phone is in the car when I want music?
Two separate points. Use any online downloader for songs, Youtube downloader can get you songs for free (find song on youtube, paste the link in and wolah!), or you can buy the songs and download them to your computer, then put them on the USB stick. Or if you have multiple CD's of these songs, you can rip them to your computer - and then to the USB stick

Spotify is the separate point, that, when you download songs on spotify, you can listen to them without using data or streaming - so saves data on your phone/tablet etc. But you can't have them permanently stored on another medium (Such as USB, SD Cards, Hard Drives etc)

If you have Spotify then I see no point having any other music source in the car lol, 90% of music if not more, can be found on Spotify. I have spotify because of my sonos setup at home so when the car arrived I was very pleased to see that automatic pairing worked very well. All I do is;

1) Open spotify on my phone
2) Choose the music I want to listen to i.e. playlists I have created, charts, albums etc
3) Bluetooth is always on, so the car and phone pairs automatically
4) Press play and enjoy.

I have just imported a 2016 GT350R, which has Sync3. I have downloaded Spotify onto my iPhone, as it's one of the few apps recognised by Sync3, and that appears on the main screen and works fine, as does the iTunes library on the phone, but I can't get Apple or Google maps to work, I wonder whether I have CarPlay or not.

2016 sync 3 does NOT have apple or Android play.

It will need a paid for activation at some point in the future.

It might be able to be upgraded when the UK maps are fitted.
There is no paid for activation? it's not a music service,
or you might be able to upgrade with the Wifi

There were stories going round that the USB port might need to be updated, but have not heard anymore on this

The latest info is that it will need a paid for hardware upgrade/activation....... if they release anything at all.

The USB port, might need to be upgraded and that is it,
but as there is already Sat Nav, what is the real point of using google maps? it will cost you data from the phone company?
What I have seem of carplay, don't think it's going to be that big of deal for me
Sync 3 plays my music, reads my texts and emails and has very good voice commands

Google Maps is far superior to any car sat nav system as it is constantly updated and for ease of use, can just type in a restaurant for example. Plus G Maps uses fairly negligible data especially as most people have at least 5/6GB data allowance a month.

My US sourced car has no UK mapping, so Tom-tom or Google Maps is required.

Can this not be resolved by replacing the SD card with a UK one? Obv I'm expecting it not to be that simple :)

Thats all great but it back to controlling your music from your phone rather than the nice big screen and steering wheel.
