Anyone had this issue? My sound in sport seems to have dropped off. Only have 200 miles on but it was more agressive. Any way to check this without dealer wasting money limited time?

The solenoid used for this is pretty much the same across the board and unfortunately this is rather a common problem (be it M5, GT3, GT350, Corvette, Camaro). Good news is its not too bad in terms of the fix. Warranty should cover it.

I believe a valve failure would throw a fault and you would get the "Drive mode unavailable" message

I have a '17. After only about 150 miles, mine got stuck open... now, that's not the worst thing that could happen in the grand scheme of things. It sounded great all the time. But i wanted it fixed for the late nights i get home from work. It's nice to not have to wake up the neighborhood going down the alley way to get to my garage. Took forever to get the part - almost a month! Apparently the part got shipped to the wrong dealership twice. But long story short, it's fixed and back to normal.

My valves stayed open recently (just once) on a cold start vs going through its normal check procedure. No codes or lights. It was cool to hear but my eyebrow is going to be raised for a bit.

While the car is idling in sport mode, look in the 2 inner exhaust tips. You should see the valves about 7 inches back from the opening. If they are open, then you don't need service. If they are closed, they may need to be reset.

Took a look inside and both were open. Guess it was just my hearing or "getting used to" the sweet sounds. Louder = Better!
