that's kind of what i'm thinking. at this point I shouldn't be surprised other loud people on this forum can't see how an inverted dent with no metal to metal contact is weird but here we are :D
Stick your finger in the opening of a beer can and push outward against the side with your finger tip.

my theory is this, its been super hot lately and this is the car's first summer. when the fender was bolted down it was done in such a way when the aluminum in this portion heated up it bowed up because expanding metal always goes somewhere. the bolt at the top of the fender is likely the reason for the binding.

I had something similar happen on another car. There was a bolt that was a hair too long. It resulted in a nasty rattle. Had that volt been shorter, there would have been no contact. Had it been longer it likely would have deformed the sheet metal.

that's not what i mean. the bolt is just to make the little top part line up right. well if you bolt it down one way when its nice and cool its possible you could create tin can effect with the sheet metal if it can't move in a way that it needs to in order to prevent bowing out. then pop, you got a weird outward dent.

when i have time i'm gonna show it to the dealer.
