Hi all,

Just thought I'd share my experience with my Solo Street race catback.

1full.webp

This is a great catback, sounds great, its EXTREMELY loud (which is what i wanted).

But the only issue I have with this exhaust is that it does drone. It drones really bad at 2-2.1K Rpm under light load.

When I am in 6th gear, cruising at 65 mph it does not drone. As soon as you try cruising in 70-75 mph.. Heavy drone. Only choice I have is to either slow down or speed up to 80.

Don't get me wrong, I love this exhaust. Just wanted to let people know that it does drone. I'm at the point where I might put a resonated X pipe in just to reduce some of the volume (the drone gets pretty annoying on long drives, I don't mind it on my daily commute).

From price to quality ratio.. I don't think you can go wrong with this exhaust! Don't let this shy you away from buying !

Good lookin out OP. Personally on my MY18, I thing and X pipe will be good enough for me. I care more about cruise sound than trying to annoy the neighbors. Drone is a deal breaker for me.

I assume you've attempted adjusting the J-pipes to get rid of it, or called Solo for their advice on the topic?

Take it back to Zorro and have them switch out the centre x-pipe for 1 of their resonators as you mentioned ... maybe the next one up (the smaller one)??

Yup adjusted the J pipe.. Does not do much IMO. Adjusted it multiple times to try to find the sweet spot but was not successful.

Yea thats what I'm thinking as well... The guys are Zorro and Solo performance are great to deal with and I'm sure it'll be a hassle free experience

The best exhaust shop in the GTA IMO and I've been to a lot over the years.

Btw, if you do make the swap on the centre res I'd love to hear it. I love the sound of my current set-up but am always wondering if there's something out there I'd like even more!

I don't think you're going to find any exhaust that doesn't drone at 2k on these cars without using the stock suitcase resonator.

I'm running a Solo Thunder, it has the smaller (i.e., louder) of the two center resonator options (OTTOMH I think it's like 11" vs. 18"). Since Solo had the smart idea to make the center sections modular, it swaps out with your X-pipe.

I think you'd be super happy with the sound level, tone combined with a huge reduction in the drone. If you wind up wanting louder, you can always add headers (and pick up a decent amount of power as well). Headers are on my list, and in fact, I'm prepared to go to the even larger/quieter resonator if it gets to be too much.

False. Corsa catbacks have zero drone, even with headers.

OP, are you sure you're hearing drone and not just the tone of the exhaust at cruise?

Even my corsa axleback drones a bit at 2k going uphill. Droning does not necessarily mean resonating, and literally every exhaust manufacturer advertises "no drone" yet people still bitch about it.

Lmao I'm not bitching about it.. If something is advertised a certain way, people will buy it for that reason.

There's a difference between bitching and providing honest feedback

They eliminate the drone frequency as they're "tuned" by length such that the drone frequency sound enters the J-Pipe, bounces back at the end cap and effectively eliminates itself.

I'm not talking about you, I was talking specifically about Corsa and other threads on this forum where people had issues with it in reply to a simple "false" as if nobody with a Corsa ever experienced drone in the entire history of cars.

Drone is subjective, my new Krona probably "drones" to some people but I like the way it sounds so I'm good with it. If my mother got in the car she would probably complain it made her ears bleed on the highway. Its also advertised as no-drone, but the motor just like to put out that low tone at ~2k in 6th, not much else to do about it besides downshift or go slower/faster. Seems like 3.73 cars don't have it as bad as the taller gears.

It does get slightly better as it breaks in though. I plan to get one of those trunk liner mats for passenger comfort since some of my friends don't like hearing the exhaust all the time. Maybe something to look into?
