Yet here you are owning a Mustang on a forum dedicated to all things Mustang from folks who seem to love or really like the Mustang. We post pictures and stories, shout outs on new Mustang buys, we wave at other Mustangs on the road, they wave back and all that is falling for marketing hype?

Noted I mentioned my dislike, not quite equal to heartbreak. Less drama pls.
I think you're mistaking Mustang owners with the small sample you see on this forum. It's popular car, I'd argue that majority of ICE Mustang owners don't give a slightest crap about whether Mach E is a Mustang or not.
What Chevy seems to be doing with Corvette and Camaro though should make everyone here feel better about Mach E :)

I came here to join with other enthusiasts or so called fans of the Mustang to share my enthusiasm, get feedback on modding, updates, post about problems, successes, tracking, hear about vendors, cool wheels etc. a lot like my Gaming PC forums. I suppose the other way to view a forum community is just being a "small sample" but that's not why I'm here.

In some way the Mach-E has elicited certain feelings with Mustang enthusiast, I'm in two Mustang groups on FB and both had have goofy meme posts or long threads about the Mach-E. But now let's just let it rest, I'll peek in the garage and smile once again.

To be fair, I'm not against Ford and all the others making EV's and new models will have issues to work out. I dislike Ford Co-opting the Mustang badge on this EV. It looks like a SUV not a pony car and in places like here generates opinion based discord over the model. fwiw
The more I look at them, I do notice that the Mach E is lower and less "jelly bean" than a lot of SUVs. But yeah, it was a jerk move to Mustang fans to call it a Mustang.

If people still were loyal to a brand, I could see , getting upset over them using the name mustang on anything but a pony car, but buyers are not. And I'd bet most Mustang owners, other vehicles are not fords and only fords. At one time, this is how many buyers were.
I think most people have brand loyalty. But maybe I'm wrong and I'm the only one. I have a lot of brand loyalty, but yet I bought a Toybaru because Ford doesn't make a competing product.

And Ford has done a number of things in the last 7-8 years that have somewhat eroded my brand loyalty. I won't go into details here unless someone asks for them.

I think you are wrong about Mustang owners. Even just people in general - non Mustang owners - feel like calling this EV SUV a Mustang was a bad move by Ford. People at my work know that I like Mustangs and a number of them have said that they think it was dumb for Ford to do it. You don't have to be a Mustang fan or have ever owned one to realize when a company makes a big mistake with a model name.

How do you define bad or dumb ? People will not buy a Mustang but a Camaro instead ? Or a Challenger ? (which are about to die gruesome death and ironically become EVs)

Only thing that matters for Ford is money (if someone thinks otherwise, there is little help for them) - this is absolute win win for them. Mustang people will keep buying Mustangs and just whine on the forums, it created a whole lot of publicity for Mach E (sorry - Mustang Mach E) and they can't make it enough of them they're selling so well.

Ford marketing team is laughing every day and patting themselves on the back. I guarantee it.

(for the record - Mach E doesn't really bother me personally, maybe I've spent too many years working for corporation(s) ) - even though I do have 1st gen '65 in the garage . Maybe I'll restomod it with an EV motor ;-)

I would define bad or dumb as something that might alienate or upset your existing and or future customers.

People who were thinking about buying a Ford might choose to buy something else. Possibly even a Toyota or Subaru. People who have never purchased anything new except Fords might look harder at other brands.

At my work one of the major goals is to avoid losing existing customers. I think it's a good rule.

I would love it if you restomod your '65. Classic Mustangs were built to a (low) budget for sure. I'm sure it would work better as an EV. I'm restomodding mine as well, but I'm going with a larger gas engine. One that could have come in the car, but I have a stroker kit on it so it can suck down more dinosaur juice.

I had considered converting my old 944 to an EV at one time. I just feel that an EV is too dangerous to work on. I think I'll leave it to the pros and I'll stick with safer stuff.
