So why is it that some Mustang Enthusiasts crave the Fox (79-93)?

It does. On the Nitto Drag Radials, it ran 11.98 @117mph at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY and with more track time with it, I'm sure it would go faster.

I think for a lot of us old timers its how we started. My first Fox Body was a 1982 Mustang GT I bought brand new as the Army gave me a whole $5k to go Infantry. At the time they really were an awesome car. My kids love them now, they would love to get their hands on a 1993 Cobra but I told them an SVT Cobra in decent shape is more than a lot of new cars.

I have owned a 1982 Mustang GT, 2 1985 Mustang GTs-1 got totaled and almost killed me with it from a driver pulling out of a driveway, 1987 Mustang GT, 1990 LX 5.0, 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra, 1995 SVT Mustang Cobra and then finally a 1998 SVT Mustang Cobra. Then off to BMWs and Porsches for the next 20 years and back into a 2020 Mustang GT PP1 300A car.

My fox mustang was a black 1985 LX coupe with the 5.0. More rare, lighter and stiffer body than the GT. My favorite parts of the car were the quick rack and pinion steering, the V8, and 5 speed. It ran 13's is all but that was quick in 1985. My least favorite part was the interior. I never considered it to be a good looking car although the black made it look better I thought. It was the pure pleasure of driving it around corners or going through the gears.

I still have the Black 86 SVO compprep I purchased used in June 1989. Rebuilt motor to close to 340 at the wheels a few yrs ago. This is sadly a garage queen now. Needs a better tune or back to a lower HP motor as not as fun on the street now. To high strung. I won't make that mistake with the 19GT.

Before I ordered my 07 mustang GT I considered another fox mustang. I looked at a one owner 93 LX coupe I think it was. It was mint despite having 120k miles on it and the price was right.
After driving the 07 it was no contest. My 19 is a step up from the 07 in every way. I just wish the newer mustangs were lighter. They handle better but you can just feel the weight when you drive it. If you've ever driven a 65 mustang with the Streetortrack suspension you'll know what I mean. The feel is just completely different. Don't get me wrong, I love them all, probably why I've had so many.

I'm in the club - had one and it was constantly needing something. They were not great cars, but you have to remember there weren't any great performance cars in that era. I had friends with Camaros, BMWs, Supras, RX-7s, Mercedes, 944s, 928s, 914s, and none were remarkably better than the plucky ol' fox Mustang. To be able to buy a Mustang for $10k that could keep up with a $35k 944 was special then. The nostalgia feeds the desire today.

I have fond memories of them. I bought an 87 iroc and learned to drag race on front street in philly back in the 80s. The street racing scene was something right out of a movie back then. The fox was the king of the street. Beating corvettes and Supra’s of the day. I got so fed up of losing to the foxes. I traded my Camaro for one. To this day that little Windsor still has the sweetest exhaust note in history!
You have to be 💩ing me! I grew up down there in front of Oscar Meyer on Friday and Saturday Nights! Racing everything from my cars and bikes! Small world indeed! 😂

I loved my fox, she was a Oxford white 90 LX 5.0, T-5 hatch. What a great car, I had her for ten years & such great memories too . It’s because of her that I’m here in today’s 5.0 !
