I know this topic has been beaten to death but I think enough time has passed and people have had their rides long enough to allow for a cooler perspective.

For those of you that purchased the performance package; has the 3.73 gears become annoying in general or specifically, during city driving? Even if 3.73 turns out to be a sore point I still think PP is a good value but now I'm really considering skipping it because of what some have claimed to be too short a gear for the mt82. I know I can always swap out the gears or even change the transmission for a tremec but I would like to have as enjoyable an experience out-the-box as possible. I would just test drive a PP GT but it seems that none of the dealers in my area ever have them available.

So maybe those of you who have had your PP GT for a while can chime in and help me or anyone else that's on the fence to decide if 3.73 when paired with the MT82 is good for a DD and if not, if it's bad enough that if you could do it again you'd pass on PP. I should mention that I'm not planning on FI for the foreseeable future and maybe will do a tune.

It would help if you could mention how long you've had the car and the kind of driving you mostly do in your DD(city stop and go or highway/freeway cruising). Thanks.

Picked mine up early December. I drive about 20 miles one way to work in pretty heavy traffic sometimes early in the morning. The 3.73's are pretty short lol, first gear is quick. I don't regret getting the PP, worth every penny for what you get.

I love the 3.73s, and if you get tired of shifting a lot you can always skip gears (not sure what the term for this is) 1-3-5 or 2-4-6 you get the point. Plenty of power to do this and is mpg friendly

I've put on about 2500 miles on a PP GT and have no issues with the 3.73 gears. I enjoy driving the car and working through the gears both on the way up and down. I do mostly suburban/highway (40/60) driving.

I have no complaints. I do skip gears regularly.

I also drove my 07 for 6 years with a Paxton blower and 4.10s. So I am used to quick shifting. Lol

I traded in my 07 for this car - I also had 4.10s but alas no blower. That must've been insane...

This is my first manual transmission car, so I don't have anything to really compare it to, but after about 1800 miles, I guess I see what people are talking about, but it doesn't really bother me. I row through every gear most of the time as I accelerate, too. So I do a lot of shifting, but I enjoy it.

... Then again, I live downtown these days, and don't drive very much (which makes me a little sad, I like driving), so maybe I'd be a little more tired of it if I had to drive more.

I was running 305/35r19 MT drag radials. 1st and 2nd was pretty intense. I did swap in 3.73's before selling though. It was probably to much gear for the average person with that much power.

If the performance pack had an option for 3.55's I probably would have gotten it. I hate running through the gears when driving around the city. I also average about 14 MPG so far through 700 miles which is about 1/4 highway.

3.73 gear is best gear!

Learn to skip shift. I usually only use 4 or 5 of the available gears in city, start out in 2nd in the snow. In a way, it adds a bit of versatility once you get a feel for what each gear feels like, and where in the power band you want to be.

For those who say first is useless with the MT82/3.73 combo, I have no idea what you're doing to determine this, but it's perfectly fine.

I'll have the final verdict next weekend during the local SCCA track day season opener. But I have a feeling I'll like the setup.

Also, I can't imagine what this car would feel like without the Torsen LSD.

what others have said...skip a few gears and 2nd gear starts.

3.15, 3.55, or 3.73...you still have to shift. You want to shift less, skip a gear. I don't care what gearing ratio is set up...city driving sucks!

Has anyone put together data of the different shift points for each gearing ratio? Maybe a mile per hour or two difference?
