Snow season almost done

I've heard mixed reviews on the weight in the back. Do you find it to be better than no weight in the trunk?

It would definitely help rear grip, but it has to throw the weight distribution off a bit, and hurt cornering / turning ability...right?

I used to put weight in the back of RWD cars back in the 90s, but it's no longer needed. If you can put weight back there and anchor it so it won't become a projectile during an accident or slide around and scratch your paint, feel free. However, I just don't see a need for it. Just buy a good set of tires.

As far as weight distribution and turning - I don't think you would notice the difference unless you're on a race course or something. In normal driving the car will behave just fine.

I put 100-120 lb of stuff in my trunk for slick roads, try to keep it forward of the rear axle so it won't take weight off your front wheels. I find it cuts way down on fishtailing. As for cornering, when the roads are slick enough to make the trunk ballast necessary, it's wise to not push your luck on corners. Just slow it down and keep it out of the ditch. Save the hard cornering for dry summer days.

Amen!!! Last spring and summer were SUPER wet. Then the winter hits which is fine because I have a 3-month lay up period anyway. But that's been over for a month and a week already!!

We saw close to 80 degrees in January....low 20's today with flurries and possible snow on Saturday. I guess we're skipping spring and going from winter straight to summer. :frusty:
