You'll probably see me having just finished my lap, my time finished at 10:30, but i'll hang around for a bit afterwards for photo's etc (Not photo's of me, of the cars lol!)
rusgb see you there mate :)

I'll be around from 08:00am until probably noon-ish (Depends how annoyed the girlfriend gets!).

I'm goign without insurance, but not my car so not my problem lol, i'm not going to crash it, i can promise you that.

Without insurance any crashes on your car, to another car, injuries to instructor, yourself, bystanders, are your risk and monetary loss should they occur. Totally your call what you do as it's your life and money at the end of the day :)
Track insurance does not work like that.

Any passenger (instructor) is in the vehicle at their own risk, this is why Ford make you sign a disclaimer stating if you crash and burn themselves, track organisers cannot be held responsible.

If someone crashes into you, if your not insured then its tough luck, of course you can go beat them up in the car park for crashing into you.

In short if you want your car covered, you must insure yourself and the car, this covers you and your car only, no one elses car and not passengers.

I'd normally insure my car with a specialist that includes track insurance to cover myself and my vehicle but the Mustang is with Directline and as previously mentioned its a track event, not a race so I shall not be getting close to anyone and if someone catches me up I shall simply indicate and move over as per correct track day rules.

Any vehicle that closes on you is faster, so don't be an idiot and trying racing them, move out the way and let them pass safely and then go back on concentrating, in theory instructors will watch your mirrors for you and inform you if a car is closing. :)

Yep agreed. I'll be in the 4pot anyway so I don't expect to be shredding past any v8s. I also with the time I'm there don't expect many people to be on the track... as I think most will have opted for mid morning!

As for insurance. Well, you've just made me look a mug lol. I thought it worked much like standard insurance but on a track.
Regardless insurance don't need to know for me. So I'm safe!!!

Oh just been talking to Stacey, SHE WILL BE THERE. So anyone wishing to put a face to the name we all know (and the one we bought flowers, card and gift card for) then you can do.
Not sure who else from Ford will be there.

Driver is everything on track! ;)

I once took a clapped out 250,000 miles very old 525i SE on the track on radial tyres. The only upgrades was DOT4 race fluid and some yellow stuff EBC pads, the rest of the car was standard and very worn. But because I knew the track and literally did not care if I threw the car at the scenary 911's, TVR's and Aston's were falling victim to an old clapped out banger. :D

Some people have good track etiquette and moved over even in there far more powerful cars, yet others would leave me standing on the straights and then hold me up in corners. :(

I got quite infuriating to the point I was really naughty and did a 911 on braking in a corner, something your not supposed to do on a track day but after 3-4 laps of being held up and everytime a straight comes up they just floor it preventing you from passing well you gotta muscle your way in. ;)

Marshals should have put at blue flags, they never did but on the same principal they never blacked flagged me for overtaking in a corner, which is something you should not do, its a track day not a race.

What I should of done is just cool off for a lap or two or drive through pit lane as then he'd no longer have being holding me up, bloody Porsche drivers. ;)

For me its just as simple as someone catches up move over and let them pass.

Also those of you using your own cars make sure you do at least two, YES TWO laps in 5th gear without using the brakes so a steady 50mph or so round the whole track to let your car cool down, but stay on the racing line as much as you can to prevent your tyres from picking up loads of crud. Whatever you do do not just come off the circuit after pushing hard and park up, stuff will boil and DO NOT PUT YOUR HAND BRAKE ON!!!

They'll probably mention it but I was thinking about losing 3psi. That sound about right?
Yes, when you arrive at the track (warm tyres) you should be around 35psi, drop them to 30psi, so let 5psi out. On track ensure psi does not exceed 38psi as over 40psi will be like driving on balloons and tyres will become almost greasy feeling.

I shall be watching the following when on straights:
Tyre pressure: Stay below 38psi hot! (35-36psi road hot)
Cylinder head temp: Stay below 115c (94-98c road use)
Oil temp: Keep it below 3/4 (nominal is 1/2 way)
MPG: Don't look you will cry. ;)

Do the above and you car should have no adverse wear effects and its only 40 minutes of track time so as long as you do at least 1-2 full laps just driving around the circuit in top gear with little no brake use everything should cool down nicely and if the car starts to get hot, then just do some fast cruising laps in say just 4th gear taking it a bit easier, you don't need to be constantly flat out. ;)

The biggest problems come when people drive a car very hard none stop for 30-40 minutes causing oil to over-heat and then just come straight into the pits after a hard lap and park up, everything boils.

As our cars have 5W-20 which is thin I personally won't let my oil temp exceed much beyond half way (nominal point) and if you do stay out with oil temps past half way bring your RPM shift point down to 6000rpm. If I was intending on tracking my Mustang often I'd be upgrading to AMSoil Signature 5W-30 or Mobil 0W-40 to handle the high temps of track use as 5W-20 is way to thin. :)

P.S. Remember to add 5-6psi for the trip home. :)

Especially true for Ecoboosts, you will cook your turbo bearings without a warm down.

Got an invite today, but can't be there so I've replied back to Stacey. Hope someone is able to pick it up.

I'll remember that! For ford's ecoboost I'll be thrashing around... last thing I want is "you fkd our car were taking yours as compensation!"

Looks like we'll be on track at the same time Manders Mustang. :)

As I'm a total track novice I intend to take it nice and easy. I'm also interested to see how the auto works on track - maybe I'll finally get to use Sport mode on the autobox properly!

See you on the track 9am sharp buddy! i'll look out for your Blue V8, and if you see an ecoboost scream past you, that'll probably be me (Jokes).

Just lookout for the young guy wearing a black coat orange trim with a fur hood, that'll be me, impossible to miss. And give me a yell :headbang:

Well, was looking forward to seeing you all again (or for 1st time) but it's getting too late to organise cover for work.
I emailed Stacey twice today asking for the invite, copied Karen's PM but no luck, not a sausage.
Win some.... lose more. I must of upset her somehow

Looking forward to photos though
