I have a 2015 GT Premium with Performance Package that I bought in January 2015. Even though I've had it close to a year now, I've only put about 2500 miles on the car, it's a weekend only car for me, always garaged unless I'm driving it. I live in Phoenix so rain, snow, salt, humidity, etc are not problems.

Take the car in to get it's first oil change, they give me a hard time right away about the fact that it doesn't need one, not at 2500 miles. Maybe, but given it's a year old, I want it done anyways.

They come back and tell me car is perfect other than some corrosion on the battery and for $69 they can fix that, clean it up and put some protective wrap, etc. I declined, this is the first time I have ever heard of this before, and frankly I can't see anything wrong myself.

Is this a common problem or was the dealer just looking to make some extra money?

Just clean it yourself. I highly doubt a year old battery is leaking.

Thanks guys, I figured this was some sort of stealership scam but wanted to make sure.

If it is corrosion then it should be covered under the warranty. If the battery just has crud on it, then use baking soda with water, pour it and wait a few minutes. Rinse it off and then use battery terminal protector spray!

At your auto parts store there is probably a rack at the check-out. For $1 or so buy a little squeeze pack of the battery "jelly." It is a red gel you coat your terminals with after you clean them. Works great.

a little odd to get corrosion so fast. But it does make me wonder if the plastic cover on the battery will trap off-gas and accelerate corrosion. In any case, you can just get a wire brush at the auto parts store, and clean it yourself. You may or may not need to disconnect the terminals. But if you do, be sure to do them in the proper order. I'd have to google that.
