Silly question regarding oil dipstick???

When i check my engine oil one side of the oil dipstick marks diferent to the other side why? Which is the correct measurment? Did a search no luck. Thanks.

That dipstick will drive a person crazy. Mine did the same thing. Almost eight quarts in and could only get a reading on the non-crosshatched side. And it doesn't help that the clean oil is barely visible on the stick.

The dipstick on these cars is a pain in the arse, especially if you have a strut tower brace. Great placement of it, Ford... good move. Anyway, when I changed my oil, I had to check the friggin' thing about 8 times before I got a usable reading. What I realized I had to do was do the usual wipe it clean thing, then put it in quickly, pull it out quickly biasing the direction I pull toward the front of the car. Easier to pull it out from front of car, too.

Yeah I noticed this while shopping the car , the strut tower brace gets in the way. I'll try your method and see if it helps. Thanks for the tip .
