Damn sorry man. Car can be replaced.

As a teenager, I got into a front-end accident in my Honda Civic that caused frame damage. It was minor, but the shop still had to use a machine to bend it back into shape. When I went to sell the car, I took it to CarMax for an estimate and they saw marks on the frame where the machine gripped it to bend it back. Their estimator showed me right where the marks were because I didn't know that much work had been done. CarMax refused to make any offer to me because of frame damage. So the car has frame damage but it's still fixable. If it has frame damage should I push the insurance company to total it out? It's going to lose a ton of value because of that major work
Mine was similar, except I got nailed in the other end. $14,000 in repairs and 6 weeks in the shop (good bit of rental car expense there). They also paid out $6,300 in diminished value. That pushed my total property damage related expenses over $20,000. Probably right on the edge of a total.UPDATE:
Got the estimate this morning. $14,100 to repair the car. The body shop found one of the frame rail extensions to be bent. They won't total the car because the damages have to come out to 80% of the cars value, which currently it's $24,000.

yup, I had a Crapster 200 for a rental when my AC was being replaced on my company car. Damn thing would change gears constantly on a flat road with cruise on. Drove me crazy!!!!Adjuster got back to me earlier. Gonna pick it up from the tow yard tomorrow and is gonna be towed to a collision shop. And its only a few miles away from my house.
Rental is gonna be paid for. I asked to swap it out for another Ford or a Mustang because this Chrysler 200 is killing me. The nine speed is very finicky and there is no backup camera. If not then i guess ill just have to live with it for however long my car takes.
HE said he'd have a damage estimate to me by tomorrow. I just want my car fixed already.
While YMMV, based on my experience w/dealers and CarMax, IF (and it's a big if) they would take the car, they would likely just be doing it in order to get you into something new on the lot. Afterwards, your Stang would be immediately headed for an auction block somewhere along with the other trade-ins that they didn't want to try to resell.I'll also be talking to a few ford dealers around here and carmax and see how much they would give me post accident or if they would take it or not in a trade.
im gonna be doing my best to push for a total.ive worked with my body shop guy in the past to push for a total. let them handle the insurance company for you if you have a good relationship w/ the shop. if i were you i would definitely try my best to total this car....
Body shop said actual value of my car was $24,000 and the threshold has to be $18,000 for a total (thats 80%) but since they started i don't doubt it'll go up. I agree this shouldn't be hard to total.good luck man, keep us updated. i dont think it will be that hard to get it totaled.
My mistake, $19,20080% of $24,000 is $19,200.
Seems like collision/body work is sky high these days. A slight collision can total out a car that is only 1 year old (and even easier as the car ages) ... pretty sad stuff actually.
