I just saw a YouTube video of a Scion xB with bolt-ons beating an FRS.

I was interested in one but decided that since my commute to work doesn't consist of a twisty rally road somewhere in the secluded Pacific Northwest that I can just drive sideways around that 200 horsepower and a choppy powerband was going to drive me nuts. I came from a slow 4cylinder, I didn't want another one.

The EB actually gets good marks in this article. They criticize the premium interior (which is light years ahead of the FRS?) and the 13mpg which is 10mpg lower than anyone really sees in the real world.

I was ready to buy an FR-S this last December. After 3 hours of trying to make a deal with the Scion guys I left. They were screwing me over with my trade-in value and told me they couldn't come down another $9 per month for my payments. So I left and three days later they called and told me they would accept my deal. I kindly told them to piss off and I went to test drive the EB. Fell in love with it immediately and bought it the same day. In my opinion, the EB is a completely different animal and feels more like a complete sports car. The FR-S is fun but outside of getting sideways there isn't much else there.

In my experience the FRS is for d bags and teenagers who like to drive slow cars fast. The BMW is clearly just for dbags. Experience gained mostly from growing up in an area with a lot of kids with wealthy parents

We have both cars (FR-S and 2015 EB Mustang)

The FR-S is fun to drive on tight, windy roads, but it's just so down on power in stock configuration

If the FR-S had similar characteristics to the 2.3T, it would be an incredible car to drive.

I haven't logged much seat time behind our 2015 Mustang, but it's definitely a nicer vehicle than the FR-S. Better build quality too

I thought the criticism of the interior and panel fitment was a cheap shot and I agree about the MPG, all cars get terrible gas mileage when you beat the snot out of them.

BMW is the local car in my town, all the generic housewives and their generic kids drive it. Only BMW's I'd drive would be from 20-25 years ago, E46 M3 and E39 M5 would be pushing it, otherwise I'm sticking with the fun, badass American

Frs was fun at first when I test drove it, but couldn't see myself owning one at all

Well, Car and Driver's long term BRZ had a huge amount of rattles and buzzing on the craptastic interior, to the point they did not recommend any long trips. So you get great handling, at the expense of acceleration and comfort.

Add in the relatively low cost mods for the EB making it much faster, and there is no real comparison. An FRS can be made faster... if you force induct it for thousands of dollars.

So no, I do not even see this as a valid comparison. On any event larger than an autocross, the EB will WTFPWN the FRS.

Even in this magazine article they had to load the deck with wet roads to try and make the FRS seem so much more capable. Wet, covered with leaves, then yeah, the lighter car with the least torque will have an advantage in keeping it straight. If the other two cars couldn't actually put down the power then they will indeed be playing catch-up.

I like the FRS/BRZ, but without some aftermarket massaging they aren't the be all end all car marketing makes them out to be.

I just saw that it starts at $26K! I see no reason why someone shouldn't instead buy a 2015 V6 mustang and put $2K into steeda suspension parts and have the handling and more NA power to go with it

I can't stand the FRS/BRZ twins. All the teenage boys and autocross extremists hail that car and make it like its the be all/end all car. It has prius tires, an interior that looks like it came out of a 1990's corolla, and despite all the nagging from customers and magazines over the years, Toyota NEVER upped the power. To me, not worth the money for $26k. Id rather buy a base EcoBoost with the Performance Package and recaros for that much.

What is this moron doing that he is getting 13mpg in the ecoboost. Something is wrong there. I get 21 to 22mpg in mine all city driving. Wonder how much he was paid by scion for the article.
