Side light bulb replacement

Hi all.

Has anyone changed a bulb in their front sidelights or are they sealed units?

For aesthetic reasons I’d like to replace the bulbs with a ‘cold light’ bulb so that it better matches the LED main lights above. I think it looks a bit weird and kind of makes the car look older with the warm light. I’m not sure if it can be done though.

The bulbs are removable. The primary issue is going to be being able to fit your hand in there to actually swap them. I gave up after a good hour of trying on both sides.

The next time I have the bumper off, I may attempt to swap the primary bulbs, but I am also very apprehensive about breaking the seal and having condensation issues in the housing. You can probably toss some humidity/drying packs in there, if you dare.

Generally I would talk you out of the attempt. If you break something, these lights are very expensive.

Many thanks - I didn’t think it would be an easy swap even if you could do it! I might give it a go though, but I’m not sure my hand and arms will fit down the gaps! Not sure if access will be easier from underneath? I’ll be getting and installing a lower splitter in the next couple months so I can have a look then.

It will probably something I’ll just learn to live with though - I guess after all I’m not going to be staring at the front of my car at night when I’m behind the wheel!

I re-read your post. You mentioned "front sidelights." The primary bulb is removable, but you will need to do some cutting and gluing if you're wanting to replace the 3-stripe lights in the assembly. Here's a video for those:

Are you talking in the headlight assembly or the marker/turn signal assembly? Not sure what is meant by front sidelight

Apologies for any potential misunderstanding but I mean the light that’s with the indicator light which is under the main headlight in the lower section of the bumper (see below). So not the day time running lights (DRLs) which are the 3 bars within the main headlight cluster.

Hmmm, I’ve not seen individual bulbs for the marker/turn signal housing. @MiamiGT350 have you? I know there are some aftermarket options that replace the whole fixture with the crisper LED’s. Diode Dynamics sells them as do a few others

I assume (and it is an assumption) that the housing has two bulbs - one for the indicator and one for the ‘side light.’ It could well be a different set up in the US though (I’m from the UK).

Now, what I don’t know is if those bulbs can be changed without changing the whole housing. I’m pretty sure my previous 2020 GT had lights in the same place but which were a ‘cold, bright light’ but my memory could be playing tricks on me. Maybe it’s a Euro/UK spec thing, I don’t know, but the halogen bulb look for that strip of light with the indicator on my Mach 1 doesn’t look good in my view.

Good question, I didn’t realize you’re in the UK. Not sure if the UK/Euro spec housing is any different

For the info, this is a "side light" from Euro Mach 1. You can detach both bulbs, they are using bayonet lock. But, in particular the white one sits in pretty tight and the connector housing is very thin, so you need to apply force, but equally spread over the housing to not crack it.
It is relatively easy when doing on detached light, but it could become a difficulty with limited space/access when mounted on the car.

Many thanks for confirming the bulbs can be replaced without having to replace the whole unit. As you say though, whether I can get them out and back in again with the unit in place is another matter! I’ll have a poke around at the weekend to see what’s the ‘art of the possible.’
