MGW started work on the TR3160 transmission and shifter before they even had the car.

No better mix than a firearms industry company that also designs and manufactures high performance shifters, or vice versa.
+1 not many people know they make precision gun parts too!

I bought a used MGW in another forum almost 3 years ago and I love it!

I've had a few aftermarket shifters in other cars. I've either had adjustment problems, vibration problems or other NVH problems. Having said that, I haven't had a MGW product, and haven't heard anything negative about their shifters either.

I'm curious if most would keep their existing shift ball after swapping a shifter into this car or prefer something custom instead. I'd guess the majority would choose the stocker over a billiard-style shift ball.

Coming from a 2015 GT, the throws on the 3160 are longer than the throws on the MT-82 with the stock shifter and it did bother me when I first got the car. The 3160 doesn't like fast shifting as much as the MT-82 does, either.

However, after owning the car since last November and driving it as much as I could since then, I've gotten used to the shift throw length and the feel of the shifter. I think it's really good and the more I drive the car the more I like it. You do want to let the transmission warm up a bit on cold days. On the road course there's no need to speed shift anyway. The transmission is set up well for what the car is designed to do. I've even been very impressed at the smoothness of down shifting into first gear while moving - even 15 mph or a little more it slides right in. Well done by Ford and Tremec!

I suppose you get used to anything, after a while. The MT82 had some potential, what with its single axis (much like the bolt action of a rifle) shifter rod as it exits the shifter box. Sadly, that gets lost with the multi-jointed linkage which then connects it to the shift rail exiting the transmission (as well as some horrible bushing durometers). The TR3160 shifter doesn't share the single axis linkage below the shifter but uses a GT500 style pendulum. Regardless, both are full of the necessary factory compromises.

I'm confident most here will appreciate a more precise linkage if matched with the proper throw. The only part of the equation that is way out of whack is the clutch pedal assist, which in my view (and seemingly quite a few others that have either yanked their assist spring altogether or replaced it with a weaker one) leaves a bit to be desired. Great if you just had knee surgery or have extremely weak leg muscles but not in tune with everything else.

The first thing I did on my '13 GT then my '13 Boss was to change the shifter. Just too loose and too long of a throw for my taste. As soon as MGW markets their shifter I'm ordering it. I'm already on their list
