Well, I was about to pull the trigger on an FRPP short throw shifter until I found this thread. Oh, what doing a little research before purchases can do to you, eh? Now I'm debating between the Barton or MGW. :headbang:

I don't think you can go wrong with either but I highly recommend the Barton.

That's what I'm leaning towards. The fact that it retains the stock, pull-up reverse lock-out is what's pushing me towards Barton over MGW. That, and it also uses the stock shift knob which has dozens of choices replacement wise.

I almost switched to the Barton just to try it. After consideration the way the MGW mounts is superior to me...it's basically a direct mount shifter. I like the pull up reverse thing too, but I'm used to the push down like I had in my 2012 again and I'd much rather have a direct, solid mounted shifter than the non-performance feature of pull up reverse.

It's obviously personal preference on what's more important to you, but I've been beating the hell outta my car with the MGW and have yet to miss a shift. I love it.

Anybody install the Ford Racing Short Shifter? I just did mine and its very noisy and rattles a lot. I've noticed that the reverse collar is loose and is the cause of the rattling under the Shift Knob but not sure how to address it. Any rattling or noise with the Barton? I'm thinking of switching to the Barton.

It's very rare for anyone to have the Ford Racing Shifter, with Barton and MGW out. The only thing that the Ford Shifter does is improve the throws, but not the overall shifter itself. If I were you, I'd switch.

I chose MGW based on forum member feedback...Barton is also another solid choice. It's all preference from there. Both are great!

Ordering the Barton today. I'll let you know how I like it compared to the FR Shifter.

i have the barton and i love it. very happy with it and would highly recommend it. however keep in mind that when you first get the shifter installed it will be VERY tight but give it a few hundred city miles and the springs inside will loosen up and "break in" it will still be decently tight yet easy to live with around the city

So Barton has there new shifter with the trans mount....Cost is $595

MGW has theres for $475

Does anybody know if there is a difference between the 2?

We have a built in drive shaft loop that if you were to buy from a company in the market would be anywhere from $120+, so you are not only getting a trans mounted shifter but you are also getting a drive shaft loop. We also support our shifter in the back, because that is where all the stress is being put not up in the front of the shifter.

@bartonindustries I just ordered your shifter last week. It mentions on your site that the trans mount will increase the vibration to the shifter. How bad is the vibration?
The reason I'm switching to your shifter is because the Ford Racing and BlowFish bracket had significant noise and vibration on the shifter. Thanks.

arcadewilco. The shifter is still quiet with the transmission bracket. The only thing you pick up is vibration. If you were to put your hand on the ball while driving you can feel vibration due to you being hooked to the trans, but you will not pick up any added noise. It will feel like a old top loader shifter.
