Because that factory fluid is awful. The XL-18 is only for breaking in.

This kit with the MGC will make it work much better. We have invested thousands of dollars with multiple labs doing blind testing of different oils and BG with MGC is always comes back the best.

I went BG and on the street its fine, when stuff warms up it’s really lovely.

MT82 is just really really nibbly and doesn’t enjoy being forced around.

No, don’t. It’s for break-in only. That stuff is hard on the bronze parts over the long haul……
Agreed, the additive is the wrong way to go. It might help in the short term but it's not ideal long term.

Thanks for the replies.

Going to add the xl-18 Ford additive first. It's a tiny bottle. But recommended.

Already spent the $$ on the new fluid.
I'm sure it's safe to use. Just need to improve things.

Ford dropped the ball on this one.
The additive is not sold at every Ford dealer and also not in the manual as a prescribed lubricant.

Thanks again.
Mike
Because in the service manual it clearly states XL18 is only for break in after transmission repair and not a regular service item. If a Ford dealer does not have a certified transmission tech, no need to stock the fluid because it would never be used.

Hi Guys,

changed the the Manual transmission Fluid today on the 2017 mustang V6 manual 6 spd transmission 75,000m.
Went directly to Ford and was given 3 quarts the "Dual Clutch ATF" fluid.
All went well.
No metal on the magnet plug.

Got the car as level as possible,,, small variance in level if any.

Took the car out for a 1 hour gentle drive to let things work in.
Things felt a little sticky or notchy,,, but not enough to piss me off.

Tonight I took it out for some High rev shifts and I wasn't pleased.
At 5500 rpm shifts,,,,
-first to second was fine.
-Second to Third didn't go until the revs came down. :frown:
-Third to fourth was fine.

Seemed like a synchro issue.
No noises and low rev shifts are fine.

Is this fluid change going to take a few miles to adjust?
The shifting was great before the fluid change.
All gears are fine except second to third.
Shifting seems sticky and not as smooth before the change.
Its very quiet at all speeds too.

Any advice?

Mike

I switched to this, shifting much improved over stock.

Thanks to all the replies.

I added what the Dealer called the MT82 SECRET SAUCE. The xl-18 additive.

I drove a total of 2 hours since the addition and FxxX ! Wow.

Night and day.
High Rev shifts are the same as before fluid change.
It's quiet,, as before.
Smoother shifts.

I can't actually say the MT82 was ever butter smooth but it's just fine now.

I'm sure it will get better with more miles of driving.

Thanks
Mike
