Great stories to read.
I grew up with my dad taking me to a huge classic car show every year from as young as I can remember (4-5 maybe). These are memories that I’ve held into and mean a lot to me. My brother was always into working on cars and always had a revolving door of them. He was a Chevy guy, so naturally I had to go the other way.
I fell in love with Mustangs probably around age 7-8 and grew up during the great transition of Fox cars to SN95. All the cool stuff was coming out.. Cobras, Saleen, Roush, Steeda, Kenny Brown cars.
Mustang Week started in my hometown and I started going from year 1. That pushed me to save up my broke high schooler job money, and I bought my 2000 GT Spring Feature car as a graduation gift to myself.
I taught myself how to turn a wrench and did a bunch of stuff to that car. Eventually, it got sidelined for 6-7 years and the pandemic gave me a chance to revive it. Still have a lot of work to do, but it runs and drives at this very moment.
I had a Focus ST I loved, but it didn’t fulfill the itch that could only be scratched by getting into a Coyote powered Mustang. In 2018, after thinking I would get a 2013-2014 GT, I found my 2016 performance package GT with just 5,800 miles on it.
Sad part of the story - I just lost my dad. He drove my first GT home the day I got it and he used to bust my chops about driving the car hard, and that I’d be footing the bill for any repairs. I’m now about to become a dad, and it would kind of be full circle to have a farther/son Mustang collection with my two Stangs. Both cars have a lot of sentimental value and I would love to have the same bond with my son someday.
