So I have the 12 speaker Shaker system with the anemic 8” sub and decided to just upgrade the sub and sub amp without disrupting the rest of the system. My goal was to get better bass in the convertible without losing all the trunk space. So I tapped into the the 2 wires VT-GN and GN-WH shown below to a female RCA adapter. I bought a custom box for a 10” and put in a JL Audio 10W3V32 in it and a Rockford Fosgate R2-500X1 amp including remote. I bought the female rca adapter from Amazon. Since this build was just to enhance the existing Shaker system I didn’t go crazy with the amp. I’m very happy with the results especially control of the bass amp right by my emergency brake. Ok so I did go a little crazy adding the led lit Mustang frames to the box. I left the factory sub in there till I fabricate the trunk liner to fill the space. This was my parts list.

Nice set up!! About the sub box. How is it secured into the trunk ? Do they provide the necessary hardware ? Where did you installed the amp ?

Finally I've read that the enclosure ins't thick enough to support 500W Did you experiment some bad vibe/sounds?

The box doesn’t come with any hardware to attach it to the trunk space. I chose not to mount it and it is fairly snug when pushed all the way back in. I’ve never heard it rattle or vibrate other than shaking the car when songs with strong low bass hits. Now the 500 watts in Rockford amp is not the same as 500w in say a JL amp or some other higher end amp. However I didn’t need a whole lot to have enough to be stronger than the 12 speaker shaker system. After playing at some pretty loud volumes the box hasn’t moved. I chose this box because of its space saving design then matched to the JL sub that is made to operate in a .65 cu ft space. The amp is mounted inside what would be the spare tire compartment under the trunk mat. I still used a quality 4 gauge amp kit direct wired to the battery. Because you get so much more bass over stock it lets you turn down the system bass and get more clean volume out of the rest of the speakers.
