Yes I have read every post about this swap into the Mustang. Some say it is a drop in swap, some say you need to leave the battery cover off, still others say to modify the cover.
So is there a 4700 battery that will fit and use the cover? If the cover has to be modded where? Is any harm in not using the battery cover?

I installed a D4700 in my GT500, it fits fine. The cover does bulge ever so slightly but mostly that’s because I have my 1/0 cable lug under the battery cable tightening nut. The cover is still easily secured using the 3 retaining pins. If you get one make sure you use the short posts.

I have the XS Power D4700 also.

Make sure to get the short terminals and not the tall ones.

Mine fit right in with cover working.

Are you guys with the battery using the group 47, since they don't make a group 96r?

I was referring to the XS Power D4700 that you and the others state you are using.

Who is “they”? Odyssey makes a 96R AGM battery. There’s a number of lead-acid 96R options as well.

I also run the XS D4700, short terminals, battery cover just fits, but the hood does contact the cover on my Bullitt, so it is a smidge tall. No real issues, battery is fantastic, I spend a lot of time in my car. So battery reserve is critical, and monitored, lol

I guess that would depend on what manufactors battery you are getting that 96 group from. (Note the xspower doesn't have a 96 series from what I can tell....thus the use of the 47 group)

so the 96 series will fit
