2022 200A Ecoboost.

When I ordered the car in april 2022 the order guide shows the 200A models to be available with "selectshift automatic transmission". It wasn't a huge deal if it wasn't but it was something that I used to ascend and descend hills in the 2019 200A that I had for a little while. It was nice to downshift a gear or two when going down the hill on the way home, saves the brakes; then ascending the hill I could downshift one gear to 9, which helped keep from lugging the engine so badly. It was just one of those hills where it was steep enough to climb in 10th gear, but the engine was lugging along at 1400 RPM, but if you force a downshift with more throttle it'd downshift to 8th and then you're exceeding the speed limit, so you slow down, it upshifts, and then repeats 2 more times. Like a GM vehicle; can't figure out what gear it wants to be in. So with paddle shift, you pull the paddle back and it maintains 1800 rpm all the way up the hill.

Paddle shifts are gone from mine. When I ordered it, I assumed since the window sticker was identical to the 2019 I had, being that is shows "selectshift automatic 10 speed", it would have paddle shifts on the 22. It does not. The nomenclature is misleading. Dealer said it was the same identical car to the 2019 with a few tech updates. So that's what I ordered.

I'm not mad about missing it, but they were handy, for the reason listed above and also on snow pack which it may see once a year. It was easy to pull it to "S" on the shifter and then upshift to 2nd gear from a dead stop, which dramatically makes it easier to drive on slick stuff. Plus it would hold the gear, also important. The 22? Does not have the functionality, even though the order guide says "selectshift" is standard equipment. But it's misleading.

Something else missing is fog lights. REAL handy where I live, it gets foggy this time of year when the air temp is cool but the ground is still hot. Particularly when I get around the lake, and the rice fields. I think I remember not seeing "fog lights" on the order guide. Not a big deal really, but I'm missing it already.

Anyway, is there not a way to select a gear manually without the paddle shifters? If not, then why's it called "selectshift"?

Someone at Ford screwed up. And your dealer is a moron. The original 22ā€˜ order guide showed both of these changes. The takeaway is never assume anything and never believe what your dealer says.

Yup and the transmission is still listed as ā€œselectshiftā€.

what part of that name is ā€œselectā€ when you can’t?
Misleading.

Yes it is misleading.
suppose u must decide how important paddles are to you.
As an example, I almost exclusively drive with paddles. Have a friend who is total opposite and never uses them.
For the few $ cost, Ford could have put paddles in and kept all happy. Go figure the bean counters .

Is there a button on your shift lever. I know some of the trucks have this.

Makes me wonder if it would just be a simple steering wheel swap. While I was looking for new steering wheel swap for my f150 I know thats the case for F150s with the raptor wheel.

The order guide seems to say paddles only available on 201A and HPP. Dealer should give you a deal on a 23 order for their error.

Not to make you feel bad but here is the shifter in my base Kia Sorento rental while I’m visiting family in New York.

Many automakers use a tiptronic like shifter. Wish ford would do the same.
