The as-yet-unconfirmed rumors showed up on the aptly-named-for-this CarBuzzard late yesterday, where they reported that:

At a top-secret meeting this afternoon, employees were told that the division, which started with the xA and xB in 2002 as 2003 models, wouldn’t see it’s 14thanniversary. Those who were laid off were told they would need to reapply for other jobs at Toyota, which also means moving to Texas. A formal announcement will be made tomorrow morning at 9 am.
UPDATE: Toyota has confirmed Scion “will transition to Toyota.” The brand will be phased out and existing models will be badged as Toyotas instead. More to come.
Sad day for you Scion lovers out there. Saw this coming unfortunately as the brand has sucked for quite a while.

Hopefully they start selling the FRS as a GT-86 now, and throw on a turbo...

I had a tC when they first came out. Great car for the money. The FR-S is a pretty great sports car as well. The problem was Toyota couldn't just let them do their own thing. The cars were stale for the most part. I knew this was happening for about a year at least. Always sucks when a car brand dies...

The problem here was as stated, Toyota got too involved. They should have let scion just go and do its own thing. Keep the parts bin sharing to keep costs down, but as far as design goes, leave them alone. They were good cars for the money.

I almost bought a red TC special edition back in 2011 (forget the name). It was a nice car with alot of room but at the end of the day I wasn't going to spend money on a two door camry with trd exhaust...even knowing it was 24k... it was still a nice car. still is imo.

however the whole scion branding was smart back in mid 2000s when neons were cool and customizing your car like fast and furious was a thing. Now it's just pointless because target market has grown up now.

smart decision... now drop the frs name and change it to gt86 in the states with a supercharger or turbo....

I almost bought at tC for my son, it was actually a pretty decent car. Overall, I think the brand just tried to hard to be cool...if you need to force it people don't think you are genuine.

The Scion brand is specifically directed at Generation Y.

The idea was to promote a transparent buying experience, and complete customization while removing the stresses of negotiating pricing and whatnot.

It's supposed to be an experience, rather than a Brand.

Not happy to see them go, as it's always good to see this type of innovation in the car business, but the sales figures didn't meet goals.

Highly doubt that we'll see a Turbo GT-86. We'd see a Supra before we see a factory turbo'd GT-86 in my opnion.

My GF has a 2014 tc. Not a bad little car and actually has far more interior room than my GT. I drove it to Detroit from NC a few weeks ago and got 33.8 mpg.

Pioneer stereo system OEM, Dual panel sunroof, decent seats, raspy lil exhaust...

I actually like that car.

Oh well. :shrug:No more scion. Not like were losing a Pontiac or Oldsmobile that actually built cars worth owning once apon a time.
