Scanning for updates

Tom Tom on their maps now give FREE lifetime maps, seems Ford are charging for something which should be free
As for the Sync 3, don't think there has been any updates for ages, where Tom Tom would update 4 times a year

On the flip side tom tom you have to stick on your windscreen or onto a vent and possibly have cables running over the car, this ones built it.

I honestly dont care much for sat nav's more than to get me from point a to point b. Google maps is probably the best for directing regardless as that's now linked up to smartphones with GPS enabled and can determine slow moving traffic, road works etc, but also you can ask it to go to a xyz near a certain location and it will, rather than needing postcodes and such.
Which.. if im not mistaken sync 3 has google/apple play which is that, and all you'd really need for a sat nav (and way way more)

Tom Tom has been a lifesaver for our European Trips, and when we went to the US and Denise would insist on holding it (was on the phone) and always tell me to turn as I passed the turn-off :headbonk:, so after 2 days I got a phone mount
Waze is also very good, have been very impressed with it, much more info than google maps

Apparently Waze is coming to Android Auto shortly, think the Beta version has already been released

Wish Google Maps will come to Apple CarPlay, moving over to Apple Music soon as Spotify through car play has a few issues.

Move phones, sorted. Apple had a huge dispute a few years back with google and googles maps system on apple phones so apple did their own maps... and it's never been up to par (Lets be honest, the amount of data a search engine corp has is always going to turmp that of a software/phone companies)

A lot of companies have special deals with Apple, its like Bose they do a Limited Edition headphone and you can only get it from Apple shops or take a risk with eBay sellers

They used to have google maps, but back in 2012 it swapped from google maps to apple maps.

But yes, agreed why put someone elses stuff on your phone, but Iphone is iphone... I wont get into apple on a car forum ;)!

Resurrecting this old thread...

Swapped from the 4" screen to the 8" Sync 3.3 screen in my 2018. I have a good wifi connection but when I ask it to check for updates it just sits there spinning saying "scanning for updates...". Any way to break out of this loop?

my factory install sync 3 does exactly the same i've never seen it actually pick up an update from wifi
