Sorry man, the S197 and S550 have very distinct differences. If your saying that it is related to the S197 because it is a unibody then, I agree. But, there are major things that differentiate the two. No front torque box... Once you see this, it's completely new... The entire rear frame section is completely different. The rockers are completely different, sled runners are different. Firewall? Trans/shaft tunnel? Front frame section and engine bay? A pillar joins the C pillar, roof? The mid-cross member... All are completely different.

Sorry man, you were wrong... at one time I thought it might be a possibility but not now. Maybe the fuel pump access hole is shared, the panel is completely different BUT, the hole itself is probably the same size.

Yeah... two completely different cars. If you can't see that from the pics posted, you just don't know platforms. No rear kick up? Ummmm hello??? No front torque box??? AC mono-pillar arch? The firewall is half the size of the S197's bud.

Edit: Consider the amount the 5.0 has moved to the rear over the new DPMac P's, now with what could be a slight castor increase. The entire engine almost clears the front axle. That looks great from what I have seen so far. I'm talking inches bud... The whole CG has dropped drastically it appears. Same WB but a lower/deeper engine placement. The changes as you suspect would have to be almost unrealistic to retain the same WB and change those things to that degree.

Also, think about how cars are designed bud. They start with the tire and literally tune everything up from there this generation. It's the way it should be. Even before a desired WB and Track can be established, the tire/wheel is selected. Another benefit of being the donor car of the platform family and not based in anything else.

The reality is, the S550 tapers from front to back while the S197 has a wedge muscle car bulge. The sheet metal wraps more... All rear shots of the S197 and S550 will make the Mustang look AM sleek. However, the Mustang retains it's traditional strong shoulders and equally strong hips in the process. It kept an optimal 107 inch wheelbase and it fooled some people. Kinda ruined S550Boss's reputation considerably. The 107 inch wheelbase was further optimized by increasing the track. From the front, it makes the S197 look anaemic. The S550 looks far better planed and laid out. The front and rear 3/4 are probably the strongest in Mustang history as well as Pony cars go.

The new platform adopted some pretty serious and efficient designs. This will no doubt be the best overall performing, World class sports coupe Mustang ever built. There is a lot I like to look at in the car. The car rocks in person...

My Comparison shots S197 compared with S550

I realize other people have created threads like this, but as I debate whether to trade-in my 2011 for a 2015, I wanted to really focus on the visual differences, as that is what is going to be the first (and most often) thing considered. I downloaded some 550 shots I saw and tried to duplicate the angles. I wasn't entirely successful, some are better than others, but I think they're sharp enough to really show the two models.

Credit for all shots of the S550(s) go to the original takers. I grabbed them all from the Race Red thread in these forums. Not all of them have the Mustang6G watermark, so I don't know who took them. If anyone took them and wants credit, let me know and I'll add your name...

Top pic is a little off. Need to get a lower shot of your 2011 since the 2015 is really a straight on where yours is a tad higher.

Otherwise nice job. :clap2:

That 2015 doesn't look a darn thing like a Mustang /sarcasm. "FusionStang". I'm so sick of reading that crap all over Facebook...

It does share some design elements with the Fusion. I don't understand why that is so offensive to a lot of Mustang guys.

Cool thread OP, I like the way you did your car in the front, it looks nice. I just don't think the outgoing car looks in in the same league from the side and rear. Nice '12 regardless though.

Agreed. The Fusion is a nice looking car imo. I was very happy when I saw Ford release it and start moving on from the square/gaudy-grill cars (like the current Explorer)

Agree. Also the Mustang has shared design elements with other cars in the lineup plenty before, both interior and exterior. The Fusion is a nice looking 4 door family car. The mustang while definitely evoking some similarities is so much sportier and extreme looking. People are idiots.

Nice work OP, highlights how the S550 corrects some of the things that bugged me about the S197.

Oh absolutely, didn't mean for it to sound the way it did. I like the looks of the Fusion AND the Mustang. I've been reading too much crap online about how it doesn't look anything like a Mustang, "2014 was the end of the 'REAL' Mustang", etc. It absolutely shares some elements with the Fusion and that doesn't bother me. The front end fits in line with the rest of the lineup and that's a branding thing that makes good business sense. You see that coming and you know it's a Ford product.
