When I bought this issue of Car & Driver in October of 2012, I absolutely fell in love with the design, knowing full well it could be completely off the mark.

Come full circle over a year later and it's spooky just how accurate the front end design from Car & Driver is! I actually like the Car & Driver headlight design a little better than what Ford came up with, even though it's near identical. But it's in the details of things that make us love them, right?

At any rate, chime in!

Yep, that was a favourite of mine. Wouldn't surprise me if they had inside information.

I agree about the headlamps, too, although I really dig the triple "gills" on S550. But the rendering has the main projector lamp more toward the grille, rather than out toward the fender, as on S550. Give it a more menacing look, like its scowling.

Wonder if anyone could 'chop an S550 headlamp to compare :)

More menacing is EXACTLY what I was thinking! I think that's the main reason I like the render better than the S550 lights. You never know, however. Ford might be saving that look for the GT350, GT500 or Mach 1 edition. After all, currently, there is little exterior difference between the base V6 & the GT... (NOT cool, Ford!) There's no way the special editions will follow suit. :frusty:

Render has much sharper lines, vertically smaller grills & the hood angle is different. All of these plus the lights make the render look more aggressive.

Give me the production model over that rendering any day of the week and twice on Sunday! The one on the right looks like a caricature. It's much more obviously inspired by the Evos/Fusion look others hated so much.

During this generation, look for the S550 to become more aggressive. It will probably have a more "ready" stance than it already does.

In the future, the Mustangs bumper supports will begin to resemble the Vantage and DB9. As the technology gets cheaper... and as the Mustang moves up market.

Love the pill info.
Would S550 have twin scroll/twin turbo and when, by then what other Chang would you think S550 would have?

Ever since the Auto Week breach a couple of weeks ago, I have been scouring book stores for this mag, but, alas, it is not carried by any of the stores in my area. Call me old school, but, internet pics can just vary too much. There's something about holding the magazine in your hands, the texture of the pages, the smell of the magazine and kickin back in a recliner reading all about the stats & specs and drooling over the beautifully taken pictures of the cars.

Oh well. I guess I'll just have to wait for the January editions of the major pubs.

The C&D one is a little meaner looking mainly because of the position of the headlamps making it look like a face with a permanent scowl. It's not bad and I do like the headlights but the nose is too droopy and what Ford came up with looks much more like a Mustang to me. It still has a shark nose and the grille gives me a little nostalgia for the 60's Mustangs of old.

I'm not saying I don't like the S550, I just like the C&D design a little better. To me, the C&D design has the look of what could be a Mach 1 or GT350 variant. The one thing I've always loved about Mustang designs is, while the base design looks very cool, the special editions always look significantly more aggressive. I like the "Oh crap!" factor when coming up behind someone in the passing lane that makes them get out of the way. :D
