hilarious that ford had no idea that a good paint job would be 15k

i bet they tried twisting that paint shops arm too for a cheaper job
I honestly do think they know, but part of their warranty/buyback is to go through these steps anyway.

For example they initially denied my buyback request, and my dealer petitioned up the chain and it was approved pretty quickly after.

Later on they told me my case was denied at first because I didn't "have a history" as in this was my only issue as a new Ford owner/they wouldn't approve it right off the bat because there wasn't a track record of issues with the car/me as an owner with previous Ford vehicles/etc. Once it was on my account that my car needed 15k of work, they quickly offered to buy it back.

I will also say I think their good will extends, as a few years later out of warranty on my replacement Mustang my steering rack went out, and they covered about 75% of the cost + loaned me a Explorer for 3 weeks while they investigated the issue. (I think/wonder if it might be part of a TSB, a Ford engineer had to come out and everything after the dealer techs all tried a lot of different things) Ended up about $1200 out of pocket for me on a 3k+ job. I did like the Explorer too, that's a nice vehicle.

So long story short my experience is it's just bureaucratic red tape they make you jump through before things can be made right. Probably all due to lawyers and being sued etc. But so far for me they have made things right in the end.

FWIW too my buyback Mustang sat about 2 hours away from me for a year, then was sold to NJ. I got a dealership service notice one day for it and ran the VIN. It turned out the car was now lemon lawed in New Jersey on their official state list, so Ford tried to pawn it off on someone else and thank god they found out. I posted the VIN on the forums with a warning, it shows up if you google search the vin for that car. 🤣 Now I don't know where it is.

Well that was a long post about Ford.

My understanding from your post is, the color matches fine but the shine is off? A good painter can get a "blendable" color match fairly easily. Especially with the tech available from paint manufacturers these days. If the issue is just a shine difference between the freshly painted panels and the untouched panels, it just needs a good "cut & buff" on the older oxidized clear-coat to bring the shine back to match the new clear coat.

Now, if the color is truly off, a reputable shop should correct it.

FYI, plastic bumpers, Rockers etc. don't match the metal fenders and 1/4 panels from the factory simply because of the different materials.

I paint, give it a little time for the new clear to get hit by some UV light. That’s what the shine difference is. A total car repaint, same color is like 10k color change about 15k. Wraps are cheap and not too hard to do yourself if you don’t want to pay for the paint. Or give it some time, maybe have someone wet sand and buff the rest of the car so it’s all got a closer level of oxidation, should match better that way too. I’ll you’re central US shoot me a pm

if you like the car enough to where you wanna keep it forever do the paint job.
wraps are ghetto and i don't care what anybody says, it cannot compare to a good paint job.

moreover, if the painter is adequate he will be better than factory and you can fix all the panel gaps ford got wrong from the factory as well.

you can make it perfect or you can cover up the flaws but its gonna cost.
