Yeah I mean I always use the paddles when I drive almost all of the time, but when it comes to really trying to get the most out of the car time wise leaving it in sport with no paddles is the best option it seems, give it a shot once and see how it works out.

Just about every real race car/truck, top fuel included, have clutches with semi-automatic transmissions that use a shift kit to change gears automatically. Big difference!

Not saying the automatic isn't faster...clearly it's hard to compete with a computer. Just don't understand buying a modern muscle car to just push gas-brake all day. Just my opinion.

I'm not sure why no one has pointed out how this works.

With the car in D the paddles are only a suggestion. The car will always upshift or downshift as it wants to.

With the car in S if you have not yet used the paddle shifters it will upshift and downshift on its own. The key is once you use a paddle (with the transmission in S) the car will no longer upshift by itself and will only downshift to prevent stalls. Want to bounce off the red line for 5 min in first gear, go for it.

The problem is that on your 1-2 shift you have not yet hit a paddle after you put the car in S so the car is attempting to upshift by itself at the same time you hit the paddle resulting in 2 shifts. After that shift you have hit a paddle so you are not getting the same issue from then on.

One of the vendors (can't remember who) tested using the paddles vs just leaving it in S and letting it do it's thing. The paddles always slowed them down 1-2 tenths. Moral of the story is for straight line performance drop it in S and let the car do it's thing. Save the paddles for corners.

No problems here. Everyone has an opinion.

For me, I just didn't want another stick shift car. My previous 2012 GT500 was fun as hell to drive, but I got bored with the shifting. Another reason for me at least was I have seen since 2011 how well the 6R80s have done at the strip, and the power they will handle without being touched. I want to play at the strip, and maybe get some grudging in in the future... so consistency will be key.

I see an easy fix to this issue... put it in S mode, and hit the paddles before the run... full manual mode. I have accidentally hit the paddle in S mode while turning my wheel.. it stays where you put it. :)

Good info. Maybe I need to go give it another try, but yesterday I had it in S and took off and it shot up to redline and wouldn't shift. I had to let off the gas a little because I didn't want to blow it up. Could that have been because the tires were spinning? Or possibly the tune is set to shift at a high rpm (bought car with all mods on it)?

If you put a stock car in S but do not hit a paddle it will shift at the redline if you are pushing it hard. If your car doesn't then your tune has messed with how the shifting works and all bets are off.

This.. in S mode as long as you do not touch the paddles, it will shift. Once you touch the paddles in any way, the car is in full manual mode, and will bounce off the rev limiter if you let it. You have to put it in D, and back down to S to get it back under ECU control.
