I installed Steeda's jacking rails on my car immediately after driving it home. They've been great! However, they've only ever touched a rubber hockey puck that I set on my jack and then the Ford service center's lift.

A few days ago I pulled the trigger on a set of axle backs that will be here Thursday. However, my jack stands have metal tips and I don't want them to scratch the jacking rails.

Do rubber tips exist that I can slide over the metal of my current stands?

Is there some other way to pad them effectively so the metal doesn't touch the jacking rails? I was thinking maybe a few layers of gorilla tape or something like that.

Thoughts?

Thanks! :)

Food for thought: doing an axleback is really easy just backing up the car on ramps. I use mine all the time. The Rhino ramps.

Thanks for that, hadn't even considered it!!

EDIT: I still do need to know how to pad the tips though...for future work. Thanks!

You can use some microfiber towels folded in half.

Las year I bought a new pair of jackstands at Harbor Freight. They also had rubber pads for about 15.00 for two. I use those.

Don't bother. Even while creeping along I've hit the jacking rails several times on excessively high speed bumps.

Go to you local Home Depot (or similar), buy a 1' section of 3/4 i.d. rubber hose, split it length-wise end-to-end, then cut it into sections as wide as the contact patches of your jack-stands.

Place the rubber hose sections on your jack-stands and viola, you have rubber pads to keep from scratching your jacking rails.

Those are the ones I use, also love them. What pad do you use on your floor jack?

I put a couple layers of THICK Duct Tape on them and my jack, works like a charm

Food for thought: doing an axleback is really easy just backing up the car on ramps. I use mine all the time. The Rhino ramps.
So I tried putting the ramps behind the wheels just to make sure it'd be safe to back up on them. They literally cleared the rear bumper cover and exhaust tip by a few millimeters. Once I get in the car I'll be scraping for sure.

Looks like it'll be several layers of gorilla tape on the jack stand tips.

Thanks for the suggestion though.
