I understand that the engine will run all day at 1715 rpm, it's just that that's a high engine speed for it to be running at highway cruise for engine noise / fuel economy purposes. I only let my current car's engine get that high during acceleration to highway speed or out of red lights, certainly not for any extended length of time. In around-town driving I usually like to keep the tach pegged at 1,000, and on the highway at 1,300; it'll just be a change for me to let the engine rev that much on a regular basis. I'm sure the gas mileage will be atrocious.1715 RPM is cake for the engine. They are designed to be safely operated up until redline.
