So I have a 2020 Stang GT. And I recently got the Roush Cat back from AM site last week. It arrived Saturday and I got it installed Tuesday so today would basically be the 3rd today. And honestly I’m in love with it. I was a bit scared that it was going to be obnoxiously loud especially because I daily my car and start it up at 6 am. But to me it sounds pretty aggressively good. The cold starts are LOUD but it dies down after like 5 seconds. And cruising it’s pretty quiet kinda sounds stick until I step on it. Highway speeds, there is drone but it is MINIMUM, I mean it’s a V8 there’s no running away from drone, there will ALWAYS be drone if you want loud, but with this roush setup it’s minimum to no drone. I mean crap, I’m 19 living with my parents and working my behind off for this car all on my own. And my mom HATES loud cars and I kid y’all not, not my mom nor dad has notice that I got an aftermarket exhaust on my car, when I ordered it it got delivered when they weren’t home so I snuck into my room and snuck it out to take it to a shop to get it installed so they don’t know I got an exhaust and haven’t seemed to notice the sound. But anyway I’m sorry for getting off topic, I just have a “simple” question. Will my setup get louder? Or softer? Once it “breaks” in. I’ve seen online some people say that once your new exhaust breaks in it’ll get softer and others say it will get deeper/louder. Is that the case with the Roush Cat Back exhuast? Or is there no difference? TIA!! :)

i am where you were. my Roush catback is being delivered on tuesday and my concern is the noise level, especially the cold starts.
i'm thinking maybe laying down some dynamat in the trunk where the spare tire doesn't exist for the potential drone, if it's too much.

For me there’s no drone. And I love stepping the f out of my pedal so I think you’ll love it! Cold starts are crazy on startup but then dies out like 5 seconds.

Had a Borla Sport Cat-back Active exhaust. It was the same. Loud cold starts and then quieted down. Slight drone at highway speeds with exhaust set wide open. It will get louder the older it gets. In my experience, Roush Cat-backs tend to be louder then Borla

On current ride, have a European spec Borla Cat-back Active Exhaust. This added a small resonator approximately 6 Inches long in front of the muffler. Very Quiet until WOT.

I ran several Borla Cat-Backs on my 4Runners. This is the basis for my statement they do get louder the older they become.

Mark my words ! IT WILL GET LOUDER once you add headers.. it went insanely loud with mine when I boosted it and installed the Kooks at the same time! Not that I don't like how it turned just in fact it is too loud that whenever I go out it made me always alerted not to be pulled over by cops! So there will be this feeling of uncomfort which will vanish when you step on it and hear the music from that ROUSH EXHAUST!

I’ve been considering of getting the Kooks Green catted headers due to the fact that I live in GA and don’t want to fail emissions but but how much louder would you say it is with headers? Obnoxiously loud? I do daily this car to work. Monday through fridays 6am to 4pm, I do want my car a tad bit louder but not obnoxiously loud that I can’t cruise without being tooo annoying, but I don’t know how headers really sound. I am also wanting to get a Roush Cold air intake but I don’t think I’ll improve the sound that much will it?. Sorry for the questions, I’m 19 and this is my first car that I’m paying myself but due to being my first car I know nothing of car info like that.

No worries mate, I will comment based on my experience when it comes to loud exhaust! Honestly, I am not a big fan of loud exhaust unless you have to! By that I meant if you're going to FI your car or at least N/A FBO. then it's how is going to sound ( LOUDER ) But if you're not planning to modify your ride further more then I would say the Roush CAI plus the headers will raise up the volume 6.5 /10! if catted.! My setup isn't and that's perhaps what made it louder. Like I said, mine is Supercharged/Kooks and that is NASCAR loud lol Hope you got this as it only depends on your taste and your future plans! Good luck anyways :))

I'd skip this unless doing purely for cosmetic reasons. 18+ oem intake flows efficiently. Save for other mods more worth it.

And yes adding long tubes will make it exponentially louder unless you end up adding resonators. Keep in mind it also changes the tone. Also check with local emissions whether visual, obd check etc as you can still fail with catted headers depending on the testing and any additional items you add to attempt to get around it.

OP, I am guessing your parents will definitely notice if/when you add headers....yep it will be louder and a different tone. Keep in mind, you said your mom HATES loud cars. Prepare to find a new home 🙂 Just kidding on that part.

Sounds good! I started with the Corsa and a resonator delete x pipe. Eventually moved up to headers. As others have said, headers will really up the volume level. I’m just glad I have active exhaust for the early morning cold starts.

If anything, it may get ever so slightly louder, but don't worry you'll get deafer the longer you drive a loud car, so it evens out.

I liked my Roush a ton, ran it for years and finally went to a quieter exhaust because I'd had the Roush for a very long time and I needed a quieter system for the regulations at some of the sites I compete at.

Hahaha, good one! And I love the tone of the Roush but I feel it may not have enough volume. So, I’d have to think about it, I wonder how headers with Roush would sound ? And yea I got my Roush cat back installed back in November and still to this day they have not noticed it 🤣🤣🤣

Roush with long tubes is probably about the 3rd loudest exhaust option out there on these cars besides just open lol.
