Watch out for scammers on here, received a pm about dash trim im looking to buy and these scumbags conned me of $185, Im dumb for sending money through friends and family on PP but he seemed alright... Anyone know if i could get it back? too bad people like this are around

I agree with @BlackandBlue. Try opening a PP case, worst case scenario they tell you no. Or simply do a CC chargeback. I think that is a much simpler route anyways. Your CC company works for you and they're generally very quick. PP doesn't give a fugg about you or your money.

Tips for all:
Be very aware of ANYONE sending you a DM/PM on this site where the OP has very minimal post content on this site and/or is a brand new user with NO post count other than the message they sent to you.

Be very aware of new Sellers or people who contact you to sell ABC part who ask for PayPal or other online forms of payment that bypass the service provider fees. (If Seller is an established M6G member or verified by other means noted below, ignore this one).

Be aware of the “hand off”. This is that same user contacting you saying they know of “such and such” who has the parts you need - then refers you to some other User or the supposed POC’s email address. What happens next is that POC will send you images of supposed parts (pulled from the web to make it look like they own it), then they establish trust and you’re set up to “buy” - and then they’re gone and you’re out your $$$$.

If paying via an online source - use a valid Credit Card that offers protections where you can reach out to them for fraud and/or a possible recovery of your money.

Ask the potential Seller for some form of verification of their location, address, local landmark to their location, a valid phone number where you can TALK and/or anything else to verify their identity.

GOOGLE the Seller’s M6G ID, any emails provided and/or any address info provided to try and see if they are legit. Many folks have been online long term have similar long term User IDs on many forums, FB/Insta/Whatever Social Media, eBay accounts, PayPal, their emails will return hits if they are and have even well established, etc.... RESEARCH before sending money to a complete, unknown “stranger” that has NO online activity.

Just because they may have a Gmail account does not mean they’re legit. Ask for another email that is sponsored by the many legit ISP’s and send an email to it and ask for a return response.... Not 100% guaranteed not a scammer BUT many scammers are just creating bogus “online” gmail, yahoo, 10min, Yandex, etc emails - quick to do and quick to disappear.

If the supposed Seller will not provide any identity for you to research to confirm their validity, quit communication.

The above scam in the link is NOT old, but has resurfaced in a very aggressive manner on MANY forums.

The Mods or M6G Site owner needs to establish some in-house practice to disallow brand new users a “selling” or PM/DM platform with NO prior site use... that will cut back on the scamming.

Yes, there will always be “newbies”, but like I said, the above scam is currently HOT across the board.... I’ve seen it evolve over the last few months on every single forum I’m on (too many to list).

Agreed. Some people won't like it, but the same applies in reverse too. When I was selling my stuff on here, I would be comfortable with long-time members but if it was somebody new I actually would prefer Friends & Family payment to me so I know I won't get scammed by them disputing the item later on because PayPal is *very* customer centric on that. If it's not a local handoff, I'm not taking that risk.
